Book Description

June 30, 2000
Make scrapbooking a family affair! Everyone can join in this rewarding activity--"oohing" and "ahhing" over photographs, reliving wonderful memories, and coming up with creative, personalized designs. Even young children can have fun turning paper scraps into mosaics. Select from a range of tools and techniques, dip into these inspiring ideas, and let the good times begin. Arrange for kids to have a scrapbook party with daddy...and while they're playing, take some new photos for the next project! Gather lots of colorful supplies, bring them to grandma's, and see how old and young bond over origami, watercolor tissue, colored dots, and artwork stickers. Preserve a child's precious artwork, pictures of a first day at school, and a family vacation. Use a small scrapbook-decorated with patterned paper, red card stock, opaque metallic marker, and stickers--as a Christmas card. Every easy-to-do pattern pops right off the page! A Main Selection of Book of the Month's Crafters Book Club. Both authors live in Auburn, CA. 128 pages (all in color), 8 1/2 x 10.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Crafts in general and scrapbooking in particular have traditionally been considered a mother's domain, but this guide is geared toward helping the entire family get involved in creating memorable photo pages. In Family Scrapbooking, the mother-and-daughter team of Lael Combe Furgeson and Stephanie Taylor show how to create eye-catching layouts featuring kids cavorting with cousins, doing art projects at Grandma's, going on family excursions, getting ready for holidays, even having a scrapbook party with Dad.

Although Mom will still most likely be the primary crafter of these pages, the fun and simple layouts, the good directions, and the beginner-friendly materials (lots of stickers, patterned papers, and punched shapes) mean that other family members can easily get involved, even without any prior crafting experience. The authors generally succeed in avoiding the overcrowded look prevalent in many books on the subject, where the photos often seem to get lost amid all the embellishments. Helpful tips scattered throughout the project pages give further good advice, such as photographing children in bright clothing, which will help to set a color theme for the subsequent scrapbook page. --Amy Handy --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars projects for the novice to the most experienced, April 21, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Family Scrapbooking: Fun Projects to Do Together (Hardcover)
This book appeals to several levels of scrapbooking, from one who has just started the craft with simple but a nice looking page to the more advanced page with lots of detail. I noted several ideas in the book which were different than other instructional books and ordered two additional books for my sisters in law, for their birthdays. This is an opportunity to have get togethers involving scrapbooking. We pool our recent purchases, saving money as the authors suggest then refer to the book to give us many ideas to create pages by doing as a group. We found it is faster to develop an identical page for each family in a shorter amount of time as was suggested, which we liked. Our kids have fun getting together and doing the craft as a group at an additional table so they can use our supplies and tools too. This book is very well laid out with easy to follow directions, thanks to the many shortcuts and inovative ways to use the scrapbook supplies. Its the first book which we refer to for the most ideas. Money well spent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Scrapbooking Ideas, April 23, 2000
This review is from: Family Scrapbooking: Fun Projects to Do Together (Hardcover)
Stephanie and her mother have come up with some very clever and cute ideas for scrapbooking. They have a particularly cute page with a park scene and easy to follow instructions. They also have some neat ideas on how to incorporate your child's art work into scrapbooking pages. The thing I like best about the book is that the pages are not too complicated or time consuming and an amature like me can do them. I have ordered them for all of my relatives for Christmas, because they like the book so well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ways to Breath Life into Your Family Photos, December 23, 2000
This review is from: Family Scrapbooking: Fun Projects to Do Together (Hardcover)
I bought this book last summer and must admit, it has been fun trying to make the most of our family photos. We love the themes as they fit with our "games" approach to family activities. The book gives terrific craft ideas that anyone can do! It also presents a very positive image of family living. I'm sending copies to friends and family as great holiday gifts.
