5.0 out of 5 stars Original and Notable! Lyric Sheets and Lead Sheets Included
The Bass Lesson and interview by Oteil on the DVD is priceless and a must have for any aspiring bass guitarist.
This is very creative, non-derivative jazz-rock fusion. True fusion, not R&B/Brazilian inspired smooth happy jazz. Although Oteil's playing is very much influenced by drummers and the R&B/funk influence is there too, the music is another branch on the tree...

2.0 out of 5 stars Jazz oriented CD with boring DVD
This is double CD--one is a DVD showing the musicians discussing each song with interviews--This is the Allman Bros bass player's jazz group with a fairly decent lead singer on 5 of the 11 cuts--this is mostly jazz music with some guitar solos --I find this CD boring for the most part ... Allman Bros lovers I would think would be disappointed -its fair at best-too much...

This is very creative, non-derivative jazz-rock fusion. True fusion, not R&B/Brazilian inspired smooth happy jazz. Although Oteil's playing is very much influenced by drummers and the R&B/funk influence is there too, the music is another branch on the tree started by Miles and branched into Tony Williams Lifetime, Return to Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra.
A lot of people tout Victor Wooten, but Oteil is right there with Victor, Marcus Miller, Alphonso Johnson and whoever else you can think of.
I read one review here and if you're looking for Allman Bros rock, buy an Allman Bros cd and have a nice day.

5.0 out of 5 stars If your a fan of Oteil Burbridge this is a must have!, July 30, 2004
This review is from: Family Secret (Audio CD)
I kind of stumbled on to this CD/DVD set, not knowing what to expect. If you liked hearing Oteil in "Bass Day 98" I think you'll enjoy it. The DVD also has a 40 min. Bass Lesson ( more of a question and anwser series)and a commentary with him and musicians involved on this prodject. If you have a DVD rom on your computer you can print the music also. The CD is great! The only way I can describe it is "Soulfull".
This CD/DVD set offers alot more, and is worth checking out.

This is pure inspirational quintessential Oteil and the Peacemakers. It's Gospel, funk, jazz, rock... features his distinctive scatting and amazing bass, a wonderful blend of talent... glorious vocals...

You will not regret this purchase... it's a joy all the way through from beginning to end...

I have a copy and will sell or trade it soon-it does not have to be in my collection.
