Product Description

PowerIQTM: Compatibility maximized.
Not all charging ports are created equal. Standard ports only communicate effectively with particular devices, like Apple OR Android, often limiting their recharge rate. But with PowerIQTM technology, each port intelligently identifies your device to speak its unique charging language. So plug in any brand or model and enjoy compatibility that doesn't limit your charging speed.

Off-the-charts power.
Say goodbye to using multiple adapters & outlets. Say hello to all-in-one charging convenience. With an industry-leading 40 watt output among 5 ports, charge any combination of power- hungry phones, tablets or other USB-charged devices simultaneously.

Compact and cable-chaos free.
Create the perfect hub for your gear or the family's. About the size of a deck of playing cards, the charger fits nicely on a desk, nightstand, or countertop. Need to grab it and go? The unibody design slides easily into a bag or pocket.

Powerful yet safe.
With top-grade microchips and built-in fail-safes, you don't just get full power but full safety too. We've also incorporated a port-level circuit protection system that shuts off the charger in the event of overvoltage, overcurrent, overheating or short circuits.

For optimal use.
ALL phones, tablets and other USB-charged devices (except the Asus Transformer and iPod Classic).
To ensure complete safety and best performance, we strongly recommend using your device's original cable or a third-party certified cable (such as MFI).

I never question if an Anker product is going to be good. I love them. This one is no different. What can you say about a car charger? Some of them aren't well constructed and can break or fall apart when you try to remove them from the port but this one is molded from 2 pieces of plastic which seem virtually indestructible. I can't imagine this thing coming apart with normal use. Compared to most of the dual port chargers I have used, this one is smaller. It can easily be carried in a pocket if you need to or it wouldn't take up much room in a purse. 3" long and 1" wide.

Most car chargers are 3.6 amps or less so if you have 2 iPads or like to charge your phone with a more powerful charger like the iPad charger you always have to make sure to ration your charging. This device makes it so you don't have to worry about it. There are 2 USB ports rated at 2.4A so you can just plug your cables into the port and you will get maximum charging rates from either USB port. There is one port labelled Apple and one labelled Android but I only have Apple products and both ports work fine. From what I understand, if you want your Android to charge faster, you will get the full 2.4A by plugging it into the Apple port, but if you plug your Android into the Android port, it will limit the rate to 1.5A.

Here's a little side information not related to this device but which might be useful info for someone reading this review. I recently learned that you can charge your smaller devices like iPhones from your iPad charger and get a faster recharge. In the past, that wasn't possible but changes in battery technology have made it possible to do this.

The Anker Dual USB 4.8 amp/ 24 watt car charger is the smallest and most powerful car charger on the market. One of the 2 USB's are labeled "Android". This USB port can put a max out of 4.8 amps/5 volts. The other USB port, labeled "Apple" can put a max output of 4.8 amps/5 volts. One thing to mention is that both USB ports share the 4.8 amps of power. The device/ devices will charge at their max speed. This car charger is outstanding. I have charged my iPhone 5 and iPad 3 simultaneously. I have also charged an iPhone 5 and a Galaxy S4 simultaneously and. I even charged an iPad 2 and an iPad 3 simultaneously This car charger is amazing because of its small size and how much power it can put out. This car charger does not shake or rattle in the car's outlet. This char charger looks great with a white interior of a car. It is glossy white with some matte white around the USB ports. This car charger charges faster than the average wall charger in your home. The quality of the car charger is amazing. It feels solid to hold and nothing makes any sound when shaking it. The instruction manual has a little FAQ in it too along with how to use and the meaning of the USB ports. This car charger is really cheap. Look at it this way; most other car chargers I have seen on Amazon offer have half the power for double the price or more of Anker car chargers. This one is only $12. That is a steal in my opinion. This one is an upgrade of Anker's 3.6 amp car charger. This car charger is backed by an 18 month warranty with very friendly service that I have experienced over the phone or by emailing.
Anker has done it again using its very true slogan "The World's Most Powerful Dual-Port Charger"

Overall, this is now the best and most powerful dual port car charger I have and will be using it a lot.

I am measuring 0.960 amps while charging my Galaxy S4. I am returning it, as I purchased this specifically for it's claimed 2 amp charging ability.

***Update, Anker has been very helpful resolving my issue, covering shipping and replacement cost. The product may have had a defect, but Anker was stellar in their support.

I've had this only for a week and it appears to charge my phone fine as I expected. I didn't, however, expect the cord to be so short. Unfortunately, since the DC outlet I use is in my center console storage box, the coiled cord is barely long enough to extend out of the box for me to plug in my phone. If you're using the dash DC outlet, the cord may be long enough. The wire also appears thin and flimsy, very unlike the robust coiled wire of the Motorola charger it replaced. The combination of having to stretch the coiled part out to use it and the thinness of the wire gauge has me second-guessing this purchase.

10/23/2013 - Anker responded via email and phone to this review to offer me an alternative product, the Anker® 18W / 2.4A + 2.0A (3.6A max) Dual Port USB Car Charger for Apple Android and USB-Charing Devices - The First and Smallest Adapter to Provide Simultaneous, Full-Speed Charges to iPads and Smartphones [White]. While thoughtful, this adapter won't suffice for my particular situation so I declined the swap. I requested a refund instead, which Anker graciously agreed to. This doesn't change my rating of the product I bought, but I'm more than pleased with Anker's customer service and will purchase from them again should the need arise.
