In this combination how-to and inspirational book, Kaffe Fassett collaborates with fellow knitwear designer Zoe Hunt to create colorful garments for the whole family. There are 33 basic patterns grouped by motifs, which include squares and plaids, circles and dots, flowers, bows, and more. Eighty variations are fully illustrated; most are in stockinette stitch and easy to knit. Each chapter has a lively introduction by Fassett in which he describes the inspiration for the designs and gives advice on how to make a better finished garment.

More About the Author
Kaffe Fassett, an accomplished painter and designer of textiles, is widely acknowledged as a visionary in the use of color. In 1988 he was the first living textile designer to be given a one-person show at the V&A in London, where he lives. He is a fabric designer for Rowan Patchwork and Quilting and the primary knitwear designer for Rowan Yarns.

I had heard a great many people say how much they liked Fassett's use of color, and so I found this book and explored. I'm glad I did that before I bought it: I have a very different set of sensibilities when it comes to color than the authors of Family Album. I've given it a relatively high score, though, for the nice lines of their clothing and the clear instructions. I am just not the right knitter for their designs. There's nothing here for anyone below the level of an adventurous intermediate knitter (IMHO), but the book itself would be great inspiration to increase your skill if you like their style - great pictures and good-looking models make this almost a coffee table book. The patterns and colors are too overstated for my taste, but it's very clear to me that they love their subject and they give good value in the book (over thirty designs for about $20 on this site).

This is a very cherished book as it has patterns for the whole family. Beautiful pictures and designs that will stand the test of time. A real collectors item. I love it.

I love his use of color and design. Only downfall is not all patterns shown in pictures are in book. Has patterns for the whole family.
