Book Description

Grayson Mills realized long ago that he’s unable to establish and sustain meaningful relationships - especially with women. He’s constructed a lifestyle that leaves him alone and his sexy new neighbor isn’t going to change his decision - especially since she has a horde of kids running around.

Child psychologist Andie Bowen has four foster children, all with high emotional needs. Andie’s committed to the children and she’s not going to upset them by getting involved with a man who could never accept her family.

But when an unknown assailant starts tormenting Andie’s family, Gray’s personal code demands that he protect his neighbor and her children. Surrounded by family, Gray’s long dormant childhood nightmares return, driving him to seek their meaning.

Together Andie and Gray will face his past, while struggling to keep her family safe and together they will forge Family Ties.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unique plot, charming hero March 18, 2012

Family Ties is one of the most unique romance novels I've read, with a fascinating, complicated hero, and a very real heroine. Both of these characters are dedicated to doing the right thing, even though they might disagree on what that is. The children in this story come across as real children, not precocious, not brilliant just children with understandable issues under complicated circumstances. The author's voice is energetic and easy to read, with just the right amount of humor and sadness. It's refreshing to read a romance where the characters are attracted to each other in so many other dimensions other than physical. I highly recommend this book and predict a long and successful career for the author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very well written! April 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have been stopping by Ms Behiel's blog for awhile now because her posts about different personalities and family dynamics are very interesting. Until yesterday though, I hadn't realized she'd written a book. So I checked it out...and decided it would be the perfect way for me to relax this weekend. It didn't work out quite the way I planned because every time I turned around I was picking the Kindle back up to read some more. And now I have to find something else to do for Sunday.

Family Ties is a romance novel...plus so much more. Andie Bowen, foster mother to four emotionally damaged children, buys a house and moves next door to Gray Mills, who also happens to have some issues going on. Throw in the adorable kids, a cranky neighbor, danger, a couple of mysteries, and you have the perfect combination to keep you guessing for a few hours.

Gray Mills hass, in my opinion, all of the qualities that make for a perfect hero in a romance novel. Strong, physically handsome, caring...with a weakness that makes him more endearing. Andie is the kind of heroine you just want to see have her happily-ever-after. A genuinely nice and loving woman, you'll be rooting for her after the first few pages.

Given how much I enjoy Ms Behiel's blog, I wasn't surprised to find that I loved her story, or that her characters were so well developed. Looking forward to the next two books in her series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Who Edited this Book? May 30, 2012
By SSLow
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm glad I didn't spend money on this book. I read it on a friend's kindle. And yes, I'm glad that I didn't spend money. The story was unoriginal. The hero was boring. There were cliche sayings and the same old thing happening over and over again. It wasn't realistic. The woman, Andie, or was it Angie, since she was called both, doesn't want Gray. Then she does. But she resists some more and finally just gives it all up. I was so annoyed with her. Andie or Angie also "imagined how Gray was in bed." Gray "imagined how Andie or Angie was in bed." Characters continuously "popped mints/food in their mouths." Can we get some creativity please?

Don't even get me started on typos and grammar. Call me crazy but shouldn't an author proofread their book before publishing?

More About the Author

Louise Behiel has lived her entire life in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Calgary, AB, Canada. She is a mother of three, grandmother of 6, a therapist, manager in health care (yes it's socialized medicine in Canada) and founder of the Calgary Chapter of RWA.

She never wanted to write, never thought of writing, never considered it a viable career option until a break in her studies during her Master's Degree. At a moment when her thesis project was stalled and waiting for input from someone else, a sneaky little voice said "You've read so many books, why don't you write one?" To prove she couldn't write a book, she sat down and wrote 50 pages. And from that day to this, some 14 years later, the urge to write has never left for long.

Louise's latest release is Christmas on the Run, part of the series taking place in Bandit Creek, Montana.

Earlier releases include the first two books in the Sunset Crescent series, Family Ties and Family Lies. Both are set in the city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and feature families who live on the crescent. Book 3 in the series, Family Values, is planned for early 2013.
