Great for chuckles,
By A Customer
This review is from: Family - The Ties that Bind...And Gag! (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book. She puts all the pressures of raising a family and looking after kids into perspective. And you will chuckle a lot because in her novel you will see glimpses of your own family. Family quirks and eccentricities are universal and I simply cannot think of anybody who could possibly dislike this book. She has a lovely, irreverent sense of humour.

I grew up reading Erma Bombeck. I have always loved her columns and her books. My parents and I would sit around the dinner table and discuss her columns ~~ but now as a mother and a wife, I have a much better appreciation of Erma's writing.
This one is about her kids coming home in 1987 and one of them announced that he's moving back in permanently ~~ and it's a rundown of all the things that family members do. Sometimes, it's funny and sometimes, it's annoying. But what are you going to do? Throw them out on the streets? Erma had me laughing all night while laying in the hospital bed with a sick preschooler. She's been there and I am going through it. It's a honest, refreshing look at parenting and marriage ~~ everyone should read Erma. She gets her points across with humor and statire. I am reading three others of her books ~~ and can't wait to read them. She's the perfect medicine for this housewife! 5-11-06

Bound and Gagged,

This review is from: Family: The Ties That Bind and Gag! (Hardcover)
One of the funniest humor columnists of all time, Erma Bombeck has scored again with this funny snapshot of family life. It's 1987, and all three Bombeck children have come home for a visit (one of whom has decided to make his visit permanent). Not only does Erma provide us with a timeline of the events of this particular weekend, she also delves back into her memories of the years gone by as she routinely attempts to defend her parenting skills (or lack of them) to us. It's been several years since Erma Bombeck passed away. But her books continue to be as funny and relevent today as they were back then. "Family - The Ties That Bind and Gag" is no different.

Always Hilarious!!,
This review is from: Family - The Ties that Bind...And Gag! (Mass Market Paperback)
Erma Bombeck is the best. Family life is challenging, but Erma gives it to you straight...there's comedy in everything. Each of her books shares stories with the others, but from different points of view. If you're up for a good laugh, read this book!

Erma does it again:),
This review is from: Family - The Ties that Bind...And Gag! (Mass Market Paperback)
Just the thought of a family re-union sends Erma Bombeck reliving her family's past. And it is _hilarious_! This is a great book if you ever had or currently have a family or know somebody who has a family. It makes you laugh out loud.

I bought this as a birthday gift for a womans seventeenth birthday. She loved both the book and the keychain I gave her. Told me Bombeck was one of her favorite authors. She is very happy.

Timeless Tender Tantrums,
By Franklin the Mouse (Gorham, ME USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Family - The Ties that Bind...And Gag! (Mass Market Paperback)
The late Ms. Bombeck wrote this little gem back in 1987. This is pre-Internet, DVDs, cell phones and, god help us, Lady Ga Ga. However, much of the ground she covers about family dynamics is timeless. I kept getting up and reading out loud to my wife and two sons some truly hilarious observations. If you are not familiar with Ms. Bombeck's style, it is an acerbic, yet, sprightly read. The backdrop for her musings is a weekend in which her three, "grown-up" children come home to pose for their traditional Christmas photo. Generational conflicts ensue. This is a fast, funny book and will show the reader that many things about raising a family are universal and timeless.

This review is from: Family-The Ties That Bind...and Gag (Audio Cassette)
I ordered an audio cassette of Irma Bombeck's Family-The Ties That bind..and Gag for my dad for his birthday and what he got was a paperback book which he did not want nor read so it ended up in the trash. This was very upsetting for me as I specifically ordered an audio cassette tape. My dad absolutely loves Erma Bombeck's oldies listening, not paperback books. All I can say is I will definitely watch what I order in the future and double check my order more than once.

This being a paperback, I was greatly impressed with the excellent condition of the book. I am picky about the condition of my books. It also came in a timely manner.
