This is a wonderful selection of children's stories. I remember them from my childhood and own many of the individual books. Unfortunately, while the original little books had illustrations and a short text on each page, only a fraction of the pictures from each story have been retained for the treasury. In some extreme cases the text of 15-20 page picture books has been included all on one page with 1-2 small pictures. My 4 year old finds these somewhat boring, though she has loved the original books since before age 2. This book is worth buying if you don't have access to the originals, but it would be much better for young children if they had included more of the art which captures the imagination.

I purchased this book for my 15 month old son because I had such fond memories of Little Golden Books from my own childhood. At such a young age, my son needs to have pictures to follow the story - and this book is missing 90% of the pictures!!!! Each story is crammed into one or two pages, and the pictures, if they are shown at all, are out of order and tiny! I am returning this book, a little wiser about children's book "collections". Final analysis - the book is okay if you are an adult who just wants the nostalgia of the old Golden Book stories, but definitely not for young children.

This is a great book don't get me wrong but they are not the same as the individual books I grew up with - the pictures are smaller and that diminishes the effect of the story to a certain extent when the kid looks at the book with you whiel you read it. A little disappointing :(

I bought this book hoping it would be like the little golden books i grew up with. There was maybe one story in this book that i had as a child. There were no stories that i was looking forward to sharing with my son; little red ridding hood, goldilocks and the three bears, etc. I know little golden did those stories because i had them. So far none of the stories I have read in this are even worth reading twice. So disappointed!

I ordered A Family Treasury of LITTLE GOLDEN BOOKS for my two year old son. He really enjoys us reading the stories to him. I enjoy it since it has taken me back to my childhood. I remember reading these same stories when I was little but I had forgotten all about them. They used the original illustrations, which really gives the book a wonderful warmth. From a parental point of view, the book is great since you don't have all of the little books to put away. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with a child that loves to read!

It amazes me how expensive children's books are these days! Well, here's a way to get more for your money... a collection of favorites from a respected children's book publisher, Golden Books, for a price that won't break the bank. Especially for 46 stories! So if you have kids who like to read (or you like to read to!), this is a great addition to any library. Also a great way for a grandparent to have several kids books without the mess of lots of individual books.

I am not sure if this is the same book I had when I was a child. But there was a book called The Big Red Book of Little Golden Books, it was a superior book.This book not only had the Little Golden book classics such as Tawny Lion,Pokey the Little Puppy but had poems,Mother Goose fairy tales,ABC's,it had everything!
It had bright colorful illustrations,this was the best book ever.It had great craftsmanship and was hardcover.
I called Random House and to my dismay they said they have no record of this masterpiece! I was broken up but this item sounds like an updated version of the book.It sounds like nobody wanted to take time to put in the illustrations. RH should have just re-issued the original of this book;it would have been money well spent.

I agree with other reviews that it is a good collection of old favorites, BUT it lacks the pictures and feel of the originals. The major pro - everything in one book, great if you lack space and cash, good for that one book you take with you every where (read on car trips, overnights at Grandma's, camping. etc.). The major con - everything in one book, missing pictures from originals, heavy for toddlers to carry around and you can bet they will want to so, this one book is going to get LOTS of wear. I was going to rate it just three, but gave it the extra star simply because you get so much more book for your buck, be sure and compare prices.

What a great idea - these lil books were such a precious part of my growing up, love sharing them again with my son! There's a new author around who writes stories that are very similar to the lil goldens, and I recommend his book as well as this one: Bobtales by Bob Morgan

this collection reminds me of simpler times, when i was a child.Its not a book you leave alone with a three year old, but one you read with him.the pages are much to "rippable".
