Editorial Reviews

Review

Frances England proves that her lovely debut album, last year's Fascinating Creatures, was no fluke. England is, quite simply, an original, treating young listeners with the caress of soft, folk-rock authenticity in her expressive voice. --Los Angeles Times

(Family Tree is) a melding of folk and lo-fi indie pop originals that stands out from most of the kids music world in its sound and centeredness, for lack of a better word. England's disks have a way of conjuring musical worlds that start with the security of home life and look outward, all the while sounding like Yo La Tengo or Elizabeth Mitchell or Tanya Donnelly…. this is fabulous. Definitely Recommended. --Zooglobble (regularly featured on NPR)

If some genius concert promoter ever puts together a Lilith Fair for 5 year olds, Frances England should be the headline act. The singer-songwriter brings a little bit of Sarah McLachlan and a little bit of Norah Jones, yet manages to create a sound that is distinctly her own….And while the songs may be about tricycles and picture books, England's airy voice and sophisticated songwriting have definite adult appeal. --Cookie Magazine

Product Description

In a follow up to her award-winning debut album, Frances England's new cd, Family Tree, blends folk, indie and old time sounds to explore themes of family life, animals, friendship, and empowerment. This is music for the whole family. Truly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music for kids and their parents August 13, 2008
By A Mom
Format:Audio CD
We just love this CD as well as her first CD Fasinating Creatures. I don't write reviews often, but the music is so good. The themes strike a cord with parents and children alike. You and Me and Fast Train to Grandma's are favorites from this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing album! April 18, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I love to listen to this myself, when alone. Just beautiful music for children. Family Tree makes me cry. I bought a copy and sent to my sister as well, and she cries on that song too and loves this for her newborn. Everything by Frances England is great...I've bought her other CDs as well.

Say no to Barney and other painful kid music, which make you want to impale yourself on a sharp stick.

This is beautiful music to listen to with your newborn, toddler, or young child. Fun, happy, and won't overstimulate. Well written songs with meaning and very nice music! She's a great singer/songwriter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tempted to play even when baby's asleep February 7, 2012
By I&D
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This CD is so good. I think that Frances England is the Nikki McClure of music. England's song themes are sweetly similar to McClure's: family and nurturing, play, appreciating nature, gardening, exploring the world around, protecting and loving animals. And the tunes are catchy but not annoying. My husband and I keep saying "this is such a great CD." And we've had it for months and listen to it daily. A good sign! And baby loves it, too.

I bought this because I really liked one of the songs from here and I was hoping I would really like the rest, but they are just okay IMO.

I love her music. Unique, fun and sweet. I used two of the songs for my daughter's one year montage and I couldn't have picked more perfect songs.

Perfect for car rides. This CD is enjoyable for kids & parents both. Found out about it from Pandora, the whole CD is very enjoyable. Better than any other "kids" CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kid music that I enjoy too December 7, 2012
By Rae O
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This CD is nice music that both kids and adults enjoy. My daughter likes listening to it, but doesn't know the songs and sing along like she does with her toddler-specific CDs...but she enjoys it as background music. (She is three years old).
