5.0 out of 5 stars Family Tree Maker 2010
This product is wonderful! I have been struggling to build my tree in [...], and have so many duplicates, much less difficulties navigating (I have over 4000 names in my tree), and this is the first version of Family Tree Maker that I have used that actually INTERFACES with Ancestry, and allows me to clean up duplicates, and update my tree in virtual time! 3.0 out of 5 stars Went back to my old favorite
I am getting back into my family's genealogy after a few years' absence and I thought I wanted a simpler program than the one I had used in the past - The Master Genealogist. After a month's trial with the Family Tree Maker, I went back to TMG - it is not that much more complicated than this one and it is so much more flexible and more comprehensive in almost every way...

4.0 out of 5 stars FTM 2010, September 25, 2009

Have had a few problems and have had to get tech support. Program quits when I want to merge duplicates. Very frustrating. However, tech support is awesome! Finally had to reinstall program and import facts all over again. So far, so good. Not to say this won't happen again! FTM needs to make sure they have all of the bugs out before they sell their CDs! I have Vista. Hope problem is solved before Windows 7 comes out! Linda

I am getting back into my family's genealogy after a few years' absence and I thought I wanted a simpler program than the one I had used in the past - The Master Genealogist. After a month's trial with the Family Tree Maker, I went back to TMG - it is not that much more complicated than this one and it is so much more flexible and more comprehensive in almost every way. For instance, once a woman marries, she is shown in the index under her maiden name and her married name.

I did like that 6 months' free access to [...] was included with FTM. There is nothing really wrong with this program, it's just if you've ever used TMG, nothing else compares.

1.0 out of 5 stars Actually, no stars! Won't work with Windows 7 64 bit., January 23, 2010

"Support" just says, "we know it doesn't work, we are trying to fix it." That does not help. Windows seven has been out for months now, and was out in Beta many months before that. FIX IT, or give us back our money!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Customer Service, May 14, 2010

I am new to Geneaology research. When I first tried to load the program on my laptop running Windows 7 the program would not load. I tried several times. Finally, after becoming a bit frustrated I decided to call customer service. In short, I have never had better assistance. The rep zeroed into my program loading problem by suggesting that I copy the program to my computer and then proceded to tell me how to load it.

The program itself is quite intuitive plus there are very good help tutorials. In addition, there are on-going trainings avaialable on line. Family Tree Maker works well with the [...] website. Right now one must export your FTM file and import it into [...] which ia a bit of a pain but they are working on solving that inconvenience.

Over all, it is a excellent program with superb customer service. I recommend that FTM includes in their getting started instructions that if the program does not auto load when disk is inserted then copy the program to the computer and run the install from your computer.

FTM 2010 from Ancestry.com is very user friendly, has many extra features for recording facts about your ancestors and numerous useful reports to print. The software is updated annually, but you can skip a year or two before buying again. FTM is fully integrated with Ancestry.com website for an annual fee to update or crosscheck your FTM database. There are some cons, but not of major concern and I have not had to contact their user support. This product also included 6 months of Ancestry.com membership in the price, which made it a great overall value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Program, August 27, 2010
This review is from: Family Tree Maker 2010 Platinum [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
This is an awesome product. It comes with soooo much. It was a little
overwhelming at first; all the information that I was able to access.
Once you get going on it though, it is really really easy to work with
and really fun too. I have no experience with genealogy at all and
this program has been very very helpful and very useful to me. I think
it provides ways for the beginner to use this program successfully as
well as the advanced person too. I really like the idea of adding
photos to my family tree right from my camera or even my scanner. That
is real awesome!

The installation of this program took a little time, but it was fairly
easy and pretty self-explanatory.

I've used several versions of this program in the past and have really enjoyed using this one especially! It's so easy to get everything organized and very easy to use. I look forward to working on my family tree as much as possible because it's so easy to pick up where you left off. Great product!

Complete software package, good opportunities for ancestry entries. Like so many geneology activities, however, the scarce data is hard to find and substantiate. Buying software like this when on sale is great!
