Product Description

From Children's Software Revue® -- "Subscribe Now!"

This is a useful, fairly straightforward genealogy program that lets you make family trees. We found it easy to use and not as overwhelming as some of the bigger genealogy packages, but then again, its options are fewer. Entering text data and adding pictures and multimedia to projects are both a breeze. We liked the selection of vintage European photographs. You can add these to your trees to provide visuals from each era (1870 to 1969). A second CD lets you search for information on relatives via social security records (61 million names).

Amazon.com Product Description

Family Trees Quick & Easy is a simple way to build a family tree. Just enter family information and add notes, photos, scanned documents, and sounds. The software is heavily integrated with the Internet, using its resources so there is no need for a bunch of software that may never be used. Simply highlight any name on the family tree and click the "Search the Internet" button to start building a family history. Within moments, view the results of the search compiled from the Internet's many genealogy Web sites, including Ancestry.com, Everton.com, and Geneanet.com.

Then, share the family history with other family history researchers. Click a button to create Internet Web pages with no knowledge of HTML or Web programming. Family Trees Quick & Easy does it all. Simply click and create. Multimedia presentations can also be created. Include photos, scanned documents, images of vital records, marriage certificates, birth certificates, military discharge certificates, census records, and more. Plus, get useful historical information, including vital information on CD-ROM with more than 61 million names and the Francis Frith Collection of 3,500 period photographs from the British Isles from the 1860s to the 1970s.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick, easy, sharp and focused, September 17, 2002
This review is from: Family Trees Quick & Easy 5.0 (CD-ROM)
I wanted a genealogy software that would not take up a lot of space on my hard drive and that would be easy to use. I didn't have time to study a complicated manual, just wanted to put all the information I've collected in small notebooks, on the backs of ticket stubs and post-it notes, on used envelopes and napkins into an efficient database. I also wanted to be able to include notes about ancestors gleaned from books, letters and diaries along with whatever I could find in the way of sketches or photographs.

Family Trees does it all, and more: I can add video clips and voice recordings, too.

The program is almost too simple. It saves automatically, which threw me off a bit at first since I'm used to having to remember to save my work. It creates a file on the desktop that's easy to find and open.

I wish the help file was easier to use. It's better than others I've seen because I can use tabs to go from the information I've called up on the window to get to the table of contents. Although I can get to one previous window, I often need more. At least I don't have to close the window to go back for more information.

While I'm complaining, I also don't like the yellow background and the brown highlighter. I wish there was some way to change those to something pleasanter and easier on the eyes.

The program offers two separate "views," either Pedigree or Family. It's easier to work in the Family view to add children and marriages as well as other spouses but the Pedigree view gives an overview of three or four generations at once.

It's also easy to go online to look for more ancestors. The Internet menu lists four sources, Kindred Konnections, Family Search, Ancestry.com and Everton.com. Click on one and the program takes you there. I ran into the usual problems of having to join those sites and sometimes pay money to get to the information but that seems to be a common failing with all these programs.

If I want to share files with others or just publish my genealogy online, file conversion is as simple as a click of the mouse.

I really think for its low price, I got more than top value for my money. I can check a descendancy list, use a relationship evaluator, calculate dates, check source lists and repository lists, extract sources from notes, replace names and even check and repair the database.

Family Trees is a neat little program with plenty of bells and whistles for the amateur genealogist. Except for that yellow background, I give it my highest recommendation.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Bargain, November 8, 2003

This review is from: Family Trees Quick & Easy 5.0 (CD-ROM)
I have bought other geneaolgy programs only to return them. This program beats them all and for the price it is half of what other software programs cost. I find it simple to use with nformation stored without complications. It works well with Windows XP. I enjoy scanning documents and pictures as well and storing them to the desired individual in my geneaolgy program. There are no bothersome advertisements endorsements. I would give it five stars if there were better directions how to operate the program. If you have some computer savy you can figure how to operate the system. It is an excellent program and definitely worth the proce.

2.0 out of 5 stars Family Tree Program, December 30, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Family Trees Quick & Easy 5.0 (CD-ROM)
This program was ok, nothing special really. It stored the information but when I wanted a printout of different family tree formats the layouts and what came out were really bad. It was even bad to try to view the formats. If you want a program that you can work with easily and not do anything with the informatioin than go for it but if you want a program where you can actually do stuff then find something else because this is not the right program.
