Beware of the Dog,

Man - being a huge Status Quo fan since the seventies, I never thought they could release an album this bad - but they did ! The band doesn't even sound, like they are having fun doing this. The song selection is poor and at the end of the CD you can't help but asking yourself, what the....? Quo used to do some bad ass cover versions in their past, like 'Junior's Wailing', 'Bye Bye Johnny', 'Carol' or 'Roadhouse Blues'. But this album sounds like your local 'cover band' on a bad night. Stay away from it and buy anything these guys have released between 1972 and 1985. (Start with 'Whatever you Want', 'Hello' or their fantastic double Live album).

This was the bands all time worst release. I can even say that the pop cd's they did are three star efforts at least. But this one was the band sounding tired and not into it. Their last cover cd 'don't stop' was actually a very good cd, but you don't want a great band to release another cover cd only four years later. The band did those live single ccvers of classic fifties rock back in the early 90's (the anniversary waltz 2 part single) and those were excellent and full of life this one seems so flat. I love this band and have every cd they put out , So I can enjoy this one at least somewhat. "riffs' another tribute cd that came out later sounds better than this. And that was more of a fan club thing that was later released. This was a career lowpoint for this band. HOwever it does have the excellent song 'famous in the last century' On it. However the song is too short! Quo did return with some great cds though, 'heavy traffic' and 'in search of the lost chord' later though. this one is for completists ,people like me. NOn fans need to grab any 1970-82 release first.

Status Quo was dredging the bottom of the covers barrel for a spell in the '90's and '00's. There was the "Anniversary Waltz", the "Don't Stop" LP and then this. The only original track on the CD is an Andy Bown composition that shares the LP title, which bookends the album. This is recommended only to Status Quo completists. No more covers, please.
