Massive, Majestic Hooks, March 3, 2008

As the previous reviewer noted, this CD is a step above their last album, which had its moments but all in all was an uneven affair. "Famous Last Words" works because it rocks, and it assumes nothing except for the fact that rock and roll and pop-punk need to be fun once again. You will find no whiny emo here. No screaming or yelping either. The lead vocalist reminds me a little of Rob Thomas, but these songs have just a shade of punk-attitude, not enough to turn listeners away, but plenty enough to make for an enjoyable listen. Talk about passionate performances. These guys really bring it, and unlike Fall Out Boy and NFG, it sounds like they actually enjoy what they are doing. In all likelihood that means they are making music on their own terms, full of hooks and harmonies that have been long since missing from rock and roll.
