5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless, Soulful Anthems
A deep and wide river of soulful anthems, lush grooves, daring guitar solos and beautifully blended harmonies. The listener is bouyed not only by the impressive musicallity of FLW, but by songwriting imbued with a reverence for musical history. Their more rocking songs are fun without being flippant, and the wistful ballads are sincere without being sappy. Rocking or...

3.0 out of 5 stars One hit album
This is one of those albums that I ended up buying based off one song and got burned. I heard "Smells Like Candy" on Pandora and had to have everything that this band could churn out. I had high hopes that they could produce more stuff just as good. I listened to the song previews and although they didn't sound like "Smells", I was swayed by the glowing reviews and...

You will definitely enjoy this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Earnest Hard Hitting Rock and Roll, March 15, 2004
This review is from: Famous Last Words (Audio CD)
Intelligent songwriting, songs that lift your spirits, hit you in the gut, great jams, there is alot going on in this album. Another example of an band whose talent far exceeds their recognition, and is alot better than the stuff that's getting played on the radio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rockin the free world, February 21, 2004

This is the best album I've heard in quite a while.
I bought this album based on some 2 minute samples I
heard of each song. When I got the CD I found that the
real music dosen't start until after the first 2 minutes
of each song, when they break into extended jams that make
for excellent headphone listening.

The song, "Lullaby" sounds like a Mamas and Papas
song for the new millenium. Other tunes remind me of the
"original" Jefferson Airplane's psychedelic guitar jams.
But there is alot of variety on this CD, from an
acoustic guitar solo piece, to folk, to funk, to balls
to the wall rock and roll.

I get bored with music pretty fast, but they hold my
attention by mixing it up with solo male and solo female
lead vocals and good male/female harmonies.
The production value of each song varies a little, and
there are a couple of missed notes, but thats alright with
me, because thier music is from the heart and soul.

If you like your rock-n-roll close to the raw edge,
and not "product" for some record company executive,
get this CD !

This is one of those albums that I ended up buying based off one song and got burned. I heard "Smells Like Candy" on Pandora and had to have everything that this band could churn out. I had high hopes that they could produce more stuff just as good. I listened to the song previews and although they didn't sound like "Smells", I was swayed by the glowing reviews and comments including the one saying that the previews don't do the songs justice.

If you're looking for more songs that sound like "Smells Like Candy", you won't find them on this album. Just buy the one track and keep moving. If you like the kind of music you hear in the previews, by all means go ahead and buy this, it's just not my cup of tea. I don't know why they would put "Smells" on this album; it sticks out like a sore thumb.

If you appreciate a great guitar workout and compelling vocal harmony (not to mention a solid bass foundation), you owe it to yourself to hear the first song on this CD, "Lullaby" before you die...it's that good! The rest is gravy, and almost as good...I hope this band records again soon!
