The most up-to-date collection of familiar quotations available, Famous Lines brings together more than 6,000 of the most durable observations, witticisms, and incendiary statements from voices across the ages, from Aristotle to Malcolm X, from the Romantic odes of John Keats to the stream-of-consciousness Beat poetry of Jack Kerouac. Full author and key word indexes and complete cross-referencing by subject make this the best sourcebook for accurate answers on the statements that matter.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Over 6,000 quotations from ancient to modern world traditions and from cultures around the world are included in a fine volume which culls contributions from leading writers, philosophers, artists and activists. The focus on a range of genres and sources provides a far more diverse collection than competitors, using a strong cross-referencing system to further enhance this title's value. -- Midwest Book Review

4.0 out of 5 stars Not What I Was Looking For, but A Good Book, June 4, 2010

This review is from: Famous Lines (Hardcover)
I was really looking for another book. I wish I could think of the title or author, but I can't. It was something about first or familiar lines of famous poems or stories and it gave you the title and author. But if you're looking for a famous quotes book, this is a good one.
