Oh, Joy!, April 10, 2002
This review is from: Famous Recording Artists (Audio CD)
This is a fun little c.d., apparently a one-off project fronted by the intensely cute and talented Miss April March. It brings back all the fun of what punk rock used to be, including the tunefulness, energy (like most great punk records, the band seems to be playing about as fast as they can without the whole thing falling apart), and even the cartoonish obnoxiousness-- they cover Angry Samoans, Fear, and the Hard-ons. Great originals by the band are included as well. Fun for girls and boys!

Fly like a Shitbird (into the future.), December 27, 2010

What a great find. This compilation of tracks from 5,7 and 10 inches released by the April March-fronted band (mostly off Sympathy For the Record Industry, the label that this CD is from) is a blast of fun straight from the garage. Oh Joy is a brilliant piece of power pop. For those who care, the original sleeve art by Ren and Stimpy creator John K. is even reproduced inside the booklet. The rest includes some great covers and originals, some fast and sloppy bits less than a minute long, while some are harmonized, catchy rippers. The whole thing clocks in at under 30 minutes, which isn't really a bad thing. My only complaint? This is their only album!

Scheissebird, Scheissebird You're such a Nice bird!!, November 29, 2006
This review is from: Famous Recording Artists (Audio CD)
Wow, what a find!! I stumbled across this when trying to find recordings by April March -- she sings "Chick Habit" from the movie "But I'm a Cheerleader". Anyway, this collection of April March (as "April Sh#tbird") fronted punkish pop is so infectious I just leave it on repeat play all day.
The songs are short, the recording quality is as Hi-fi as it needs to be and the hooks are catching. There is virtually no biography of this band, no photos, no tacky badge inside (although I would proudly wear one) nor are they likely to end up on ITunes, but I wish they recorded more, since they knew that this style of girl-pop-punk warrants these conditions and no more.
It's a good thing that April March turned out to be someone (although no one's ever heard of her) or this collection may never have seen the light of day. I wanna hang out with her.
Well, if you're looking for a fun 28-ish minutes of simple, good, non-political, easily digested music, then pick this up NOW. If you know any under 15 year old girl who can strum a few chords, then you owe it to the punk world to buy this for her birthday. While you're at it, get a copy for yourself, too; it's that good and it's that cheap.
