Biography

Dead or Alive, a New Wave/Dance band from Liverpool, found fame in the 1980s mainly due to their genderbending frontman Pete Burns. 5.0 out of 5 stars YES!, January 29, 2006

Pete's ventured into a slight acoustic phase. You'll love it. You'll not dance as much, but Pete's glorious vocals are worth the cash. The "C" notes you'll expend on this LP will REWARD you. Trust me on this ladies, you'll love this LP. You'll find yourself wiping the lipstick off of the jewel case.

3.0 out of 5 stars Close to Death...But still Alive!!, November 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Fan the Flame (Part 1) (Audio CD)
Dead or Alive departed from their high energy sound here to make a 'mystery' album, released only in Japan. Mystery because for some reason, they departed in style (both vocally & musically), from everything remotely successful they have ever done before. All this coming on top of losing their worldwide rights with Epic and the fact that they had a hugely successful album in Japan a year earlier...

One begs to wonder what would have possessed such a departure, but results wernt all bad. The album is generally slower paced, quite overprogrammed, and has more prominant backing vocalists than ever before. They lyrics are simple, a bit cheesy, a bit soppy - something a little more 'middle aged' as Pete Burns confessed himself.

Stronger tracks include Your Sweetness, Total Stranger, and What Have You Done... I know Dead or Alive fans who find this their best collection of songs while others like me, didnt like the departure from the high energy pop Dead or Alive excels at... I'd say, if you loved Dead or Alive's other albums, get this one too. It provides a bit of variety for your DoA collection...
