5.0 out of 5 stars YES!
Pete's ventured into a slight acoustic phase. You'll love it. You'll not dance as much, but Pete's glorious vocals are worth the cash. The "C" notes you'll expend on this LP will REWARD you. Trust me on this ladies, you'll love this LP. You'll find yourself wiping the lipstick off of the jewel case.

3.0 out of 5 stars Close to Death...But still Alive!!
Dead or Alive departed from their high energy sound here to make a 'mystery' album, released only in Japan. Dead or Alive departed from their high energy sound here to make a 'mystery' album, released only in Japan. Mystery because for some reason, they departed in style (both vocally & musically), from everything remotely successful they have ever done before. All this coming on top of losing their worldwide rights with Epic and the fact that they had a hugely successful album in Japan a year earlier...

One begs to wonder what would have possessed such a departure, but results wernt all bad. The album is generally slower paced, quite overprogrammed, and has more prominant backing vocalists than ever before. They lyrics are simple, a bit cheesy, a bit soppy - something a little more 'middle aged' as Pete Burns confessed himself.

Stronger tracks include Your Sweetness, Total Stranger, and What Have You Done... I know Dead or Alive fans who find this their best collection of songs while others like me, didnt like the departure from the high energy pop Dead or Alive excels at... I'd say, if you loved Dead or Alive's other albums, get this one too. It provides a bit of variety for your DoA collection...

Well when i first bought this i was so excited that DOA and Pete finally had a new CD out!! The art alone is stunning!! Pete never looked so good! I was shocked when i first started listening to these songs though...it is nothing like what they had done earlier....it took me a few listens to warm up to this release but now it is one of my favourites!! Sometimes a new sound can be an acquired taste but once you have acquired it you only want more...this is one of those.....I waited forever for DOA to release part 2 of Fan the Flame ....2005 and i am still waiting......

5.0 out of 5 stars I just love this album, July 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Fan the Flame (Part 1) (Audio CD)
despite the reviews on this album from others, I find it to be one of the best album by (DEAD OR ALIVE) (except for the "Nukleopatra" album, it's downright excellent). "I PARTICULARLY", Like "UNHAPPY BRITHDAY", "TOTAL STRANGER", (AND MY FAVORITE SONG ON THIS ALBUM,) "WHAT HAVE U DONE 2 MAKE ME CHANGE)" AS WELL AS THE OTHER SONGS LISTED ON THIS ALBUM, "EXCEPT FOR BLUE CHRISTMAS", (THERE IS A MUCH BETTER VERSION, ON THE FRAGILE ALBUM) I do agree, (though), this album is different from the other (DEAD OR ALIVE) album. "but sometimes", (YOU JUST WANT TO HEAR SOMETHING DIFFERENT). (which is why (DEAD OR ALIVE) made this album in the first place). THEY WANTED TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. AND I PERSONALLY THINK, (DEAD OR ALIVE) DID A REALLY GOOD JOB MAKING THIS ALBUM... :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love it!, December 13, 2000
This review is from: Fan the Flame (Part 1) (Audio CD)
I have loved this album since 1992. It is upifting, camp and fun. The musical content is fantastic, the lyrics match the campness of the group perfectly and the production is sound. (Except for Blue Christmas - but there is a better version of that on the new Fragile album.) Don't be too analytical of this - lighten up and enjoy it.

I fell in love with this album!!! Of course it is hard as hell to find here in the states. I particularly like the Total Stranger track as well as all of the others. This collection is a precursor as to what was comming on the Nukleopatra CD!! They are both excellent and I hope I dont have to wait another 3 or 4 yrs for a follow up!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars More Than Just Hi-NRG Dance Fodder, May 12, 2009
This review is from: Fan the Flame (Part 1) (Audio CD)
This is a surprisingly good album of hi-nrg disco-pop that only got released in Japan, but it deserved better than that. Burns & Coy have the chops to craft a decent pop tune and these don't disappoint. "Unhappy Birthday" features an uncredited Billy [Ultravox] Currie on electric violin. Hardly lo-rent gay disco fodder! Laugh if you will, but I think Pete Burns is concerned with releasing quality music that can exist outside of a club floor. At least on this recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars Always liked this album, July 31, 2007

This review is from: Fan the Flame (Part 1) (Audio CD)
I got this CD when it was first released - and yes, it was quite a different sound when it came out. Ah, but how that sound has grown on me over the years. My favorite track on the album is "Gone 2 Long" which I think is one of their best songs, period. I used to cringe when the album started with "Your Sweetness," but now it's one of my favorite tracks. Pete Burns never sounded better and Tracy Ackerman's background are a perfect compliment. The music IS overproduced, but at the same time, it's very full, lush and each track is deep with layers beyond simple beats.

For an extra special treat, check out YouTube for some rare concert footage of the "Fan the Flame Tour" Dead or Alive did in Japan after the release of this album. Pete sounds great - although the footage is lacking.

You can't be a real Dead or Alive fan without having and loving this album.

This review is from: Fan the Flame (Part 1) (Audio CD)
Only fans of DOA will like this CD. I got this CD a month ago. And I LOVE IT.I just didn't know what I was missing. But this is not DOA as we know them. But if you are a true fan you will like it.It is more disco. Then todays dance. So if you buy it. Just remember. It is different then the DOA we know.
