What is in this delectable treat?,
By Belle "Decorating Diva" (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fancy Feast Appetizers for Cats, Chicken & Beef, 2-Ounce Tubs (Pack of 12) (Misc.)
I have two cats and they are both addicted to the Fancy Feast appetizers. What a mistake it was to buy this food as now they don't want anything else! It is so expensive. Ugh! They could both easily eat 3 of those little plastic tubs a day (let's see that's about $240.00 amonth if I get it on sale). Do they put heroine (just kidding) in this food or what? I can't figure out what makes this food so desirable. My cats would rather eat this than fresh roast chicken or salmon. Makes me wonder. Also, in reading another review, I note that it appears that this food does not to meet all the daily nutrional requirements for cats so though the cats may want to make a steady diet of this food, it apparently is not a good idea. I going to take a look at the Fancy Feast website and see what it says regarding the nutrition. These are not really appetizers in the traditional sense since once the cats have eaten the appetizers it spoils their appetite for anything else but yet they are not filled up-- they just want more.

My cat loves these. Reading the label isn't terrifying either, which I like. I like seeing water and a meat as the first ingredients on a food package. However, they are really expensive for such a small amount of food. I could probably give my cat three of these a day. Also, according to the Fancy Feast website, this food doesn't meet the AAFCO Nutritional standards (I am assuming that because it says when they do... which is about for every other food.)I subscribe, but she only gets these as a treat every once in awhile. I try not to let her think she'll be fed more than twice a day. I really like to have my pet sitters use these as she loves them so much, and thus will be nicer to the people taking care of her.

Good, BUT.....,

Great supplemental food, BUT...READ THE LABEL: "Fancy Feast Appetizers are intended for SUPPLEMENTAL FEEDING ONLY. This product may be fed daily along with a complete and balanced cat food diet." DO NOT FEED this as only food source for your cat. These DO NOT contain a very necessary ingredient, TAURINE. Feeding processed/canned or even home-cooked meats and fish to cats requires Taurine as the cooking process destroys Taurine. Lack of Taurine is known to cause eye and heart problems in cats. . Do some research on Taurine! It's in all cat food, by law. I don't know how Fancy Feast got away with omitting it. They assume all cat owners read labels....so not true. I love cats so here to give a head's up to those who intend to use this as the main source of their cat's diet...
