First and foremost, I cannot stress how important it is to feed your cat an all canned food diet - cats do not have a drive for thirst, so only a canned food diet will keep them correctly hydrated [diabetes, urine crystal free].

Important to learn: if you feed your cat all wet diet, they only need to drink 1oz of water a day to keep fully hydrated. If you feed your cat an all dry diet, they need to drink 7oz of water to keep hydrated. That's a full cup of water!

Second, cat food must be high in protein, high to low in fat [depending if you want your cat to be lean], and have no more than 10% carbs. Dry foods are 30% plus percent carbs. Diabetes is rampant in older cats, and it's recommended to keep their carb intake at 5-10%.

You should feed grain-free diet and feed meat from feathered birds, not beef, never fish. Grain free almost always means high fat, so be careful if you want to keep your cats lean and healthy.

I feed this Fancy Feast formula, plus Merrick's cowboy cookout or grammy pot pie [grain free, low fat], plus wellness turkey and chicken formulas [grain free, low protein, high fat]. I use Fancy Feast to entice the cat then they eat whatever else is in their dish [wellness, etc]. Grain free food, while great for them, doesn't really taste great.

This formula is:
56% protein
33% fat
10% carbs
74 calories per can

We've been putting out cat food for stray animals for a couple of years, but when one of the strays decided to stick around (and we decided to make her an indoor cat) she refused to eat the food she had been willing to eat as an outdoor cat. We must have tried a dozen different brand/flavor combinations (fearing that we'd never find something kitty would like) before we gave this line a try. It smells like regular food, now kitty is very happy when it's meal time, and we're profoundly relieved.

Fancy Feast has always been the wet food of choice for our cats (three different cats). When we saw these 'green can' flavors at the grocery store we tried them and the cats absolutely love them. They actually look really tasty, like tuna salad or egg salad, rather than generic brown lumps. Since we go through 2-3 cans of this a day, getting them in these mixed boxes is a great convenience. Thanks, Amazon.

My cat has become a very picky eater since she has gotten older. This is the only food that she will eat consistently. The florentine cans also seem to be of very high quality. When I open the can, it smells like real food instead of pet food. It also has less fat and less processed ingredients than other brands that I have compared it to.

First off, let me tell you a few things about my cat and wet food: 1) On a good day he licks up the juice and leaves the chunks; 2) He refuses to eat pate; 3) He will love it on Monday and hate it on Tuesday; 4) He has a delicate digestive system; 5) He can sniff out medicine in wet food like a hunting dog tracking a deer.

Having said all of those things, none of them apply when using this wet food. He loves the Elegant Medleys (only the ones in delicate sauce) and he will eat every last drop of it. I mix his powdered medicine in his food daily and he still eats it! Also, he has yet to get tired of the three flavors and none of them upset his stomach. For the picky kitty, I definitely recommend this food!

My cats each get a small can of Fancy Feast over a bed of dry food as their daily fare.
If I just do dry food, they take a few nibbles, give me dirty looks as if to
say "EXCUSE US, But did we FORGET something here?," and won't return for hours until
they are hungry enough to put up with it. With Fancy Feast, as soon as they see
me get out those little cans, I practically have to beat them off with stick just to get
the contents into the food bowls on the counter. Over time, I have developed lightening
fast hand and arm reflexes from blocking and diverting the poking and proding noses,
each attached to a hungry kitty determined to get a bite of Fancy Feast during
preparation. Deploying the bowls into their designated spots on the floor is like trying to
move a fish through a feeding frenzy of sharks as they rush to first bowl down and must
be moved mid-bite to the correct bowl by my engaging in a sort of "airlift" relocation.
The kitties obviously love this ritual, and the intermittent reinforcement of occassionally
defeating my defenses and snatching a nibble has converted dinner prepration into a competive sport
for all participants. This whacky stuff only happens with Fancy Feast and after reading
some technical information of cat food manufacturing, I believe I understand why.

They quickly eat the Fancy Feast off the dry food base, leaving the dry food for
hours later when its that or nothing. One of my cats is so crazy about this stuff
he snarfs the whole can down in seconds, sometimes faster than his stomach will allow.
When he visits me after dinner, according to his custom, I am cautious if he arrives
while the others are still eating.
