Customer Reviews

I LOVE it that this is cheaper than I can buy in a pet store or the grocery store.

The sliced is good because these guys like the 'gravy' so I buy this then mash it so the just don't lick the juice off the chunks of meat.

I believe that grains are not good for cats and so decided to eliminate dry food from my cat's diet. In reading the labels of canned cat foods I noticed that most have wheat gluten in them, a substance that is not only from grain but a major allergen for many people and pets. It's not a healthy or wholesome substance. After a bit of research I found that with Fancy Feast, if you stick to the "classic" or original recipes (generally of a pate consistency) there is no wheat gluten. Any recipe that has an extra descriptive such as grilled, flaked, shredded, etc. has the gluten so I'm thinking it must be the gravy that requires wheat gluten. Anyway, my cat has two issues - she is overweight and has a tendency for diarrhea. I'm on a mission now to figure out how to deal with both. I think seafood is the main cause of her diarrhea episodes and I'm betting grains are contributing to her weight problem. Mainly I'm letting people know by writing this review that this particular collection of Fancy Feast does not have wheat gluten in it. And even though it does have animal by-products at least they are not right up at the top of the list of ingredients. I've gone through trying all the expensive specialty foods only to see them summarily rejected one after another and I know my cat likes Fancy Feast so I feel like we have found a happy medium. Update - since writing this review I have figured out that wheat gluten was causing my cat's messy poops and obesity and seafood was causing the skin eruptions. I've experimented enough to know this for certain. So she's eating nothing but chicken, even her treats are freeze dried chicken breast. the three foods she gets are the Wellness chicken and turkey in pouches, Weruva shredded chicken breast, and Natural Balance chicken and chicken liver.Read more ›

We use this kitten food for our feral kittens that come to us for some loving. They all enjoy this food, we haven't had one yet that doesn't dig right in. The smell isn't too strong either, even the sea food one. For the more wild kittens we find this food is a great ice-breaker to get them to start eating when they are still scared. Many of our kittens (and the mothers) come to us in poor condition; low weight and more worms than cat it seems. They fatten right up on this food, and you can see the difference on a daily basis.

When they get their worm medicine, they will often get sick and throw up their food. This stuff also doesn't smell too bad then either. Just so you don't think this is a post written by a company rep. :p

For some of the smaller kittens we get, we also mix in meat-based baby food. Mix it all together with some water (they never seem to drink enough), microwave for 8-9 seconds so it isn't too hot and serve it. My wife and I love watching the change in the cats as they grow into their bodies.

We also use this food for older cats that have weight issues, such as those caused by renal failure (loss of appetite, upset stomach, dehydration). It's a moist food, easy to add water to it, and they seem to respond well. When they start to turn away from this food, we know the end is near since it's hard to get them to eat anything if they don't eat this.

For pricing, we often find it cheaper at local stores. And, oddly enough, the single cans are frequently on sale well below the price of the 24-box price-per-can. But, Amazon is nice because of the home delivery.

I recently had to switch to canned foods because one of my cats was diagnosed with diabetes. This has the right nutrition for kitties, none of that gluten or ridiculous amounts of byproducts and carbs which cats don't need like you find in dry cat food or poor quality canned foods. Now both my cats look healthier, and their coats are smoother and shiner, and they shed less!

There is nowhere you can find it any cheaper than on Amazon. I've checked at Target, Walmart, Petco, Wegmans, etc, and the cheapest so far is 0.50 per can (when it is on sale at Walmart). By subscribing to regular deliveries on Amazon, I can get it delivered to my doorstep for 0.48 per can. It really adds up especially if you have multiple cats! Thanks Amazon.. I would not be able to feed my kitty without you. <3

Update: By the way, in case this helps anyone.. My kitty went into diabetic remission and does not need insulin anymore after 1.5 months of eating FF. ;)

In case you haven't noticed, the manufacturer has recently changed the concents of the cans of the fish and shrimp feast. Much more fish scraps and water, and correspondingly less fish meat, which I'm sure increases their profit margin, but it's not as good for the cats. Our cats used to really like it, too, but not any more.

I was a long term subscriber on the Amazon plan for Fancy Feast Fish and Shrimp
I just cancelled my subscription today.
Let me start out by saying Amazon is top notch with their program of subscribe and save
Which is why I placed it at two stars.
However I would like to know what the Friskies corporation DID with this product....
I think that there has been a change to the formula.
It now stinks so badly my cat who is not overly fussy and ate this flavor happily and eagerly for 3 years and now will not even touch this stuff!!
She is a healthy 3 year old cat, who loved her Fancy Feast treat.
And I noticed the change when serving it to her with the horrid almost rancid over-fishy smell and texture within the last month or so.
And yes, while I realize, that it is a fish and shrimp mix and will smell somewhat the smell seems now completely atrocious.
My guess is that the company started using a lower grade of product.

I put this review out here to see if anyone also has encountered this with this product recently also??
So I was resigned to cancelling my subscription- Again through no fault of Amazon
And I now ordered from Amazon, "Halo Spot's Stew" Crab, shrimp, and chicken flavor mix canned cat food
And I will see how that goes...
Just wanted to leave my feedback on my disappointment on what this product has seemed to become.
