4.0 out of 5 stars Multi-level great.
Take it as tongue-in-cheek or straight-up, it's very entertaining. Nice blend of early 80's synth funk and production quality and late 80's r&b/club/new jack sentiments. Vocals are very similar to Ray Parker (Raydio era). Kind of like a Darkness for this style of music. Good change-up for any collection.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do You Like 80s Music, Stripped of Creativity? If So, Buy This Album!
This is the worst farking shiat that I have ever heard in my life. My company was sent this CD to promote via in-store play at a number of our locations and I have not heard anything close to this terrible in the last three years of promotion. To me this CD is what would happen if you took every bad song from the 80s, stuck it in a blender, added 3 cups of reverb, and let...

4.0 out of 5 stars FUN FUN and FUN!!, July 23, 2007
This review is from: Fancy Footwork (Audio CD)
Don't listen to that one guy about it being a terrible record. Apparently that guy has never had a drunken dance party. This cd gets everyone going and yes it's cheesed out 80's electronic music, but I guess I just miss those days of big hair and neck shade hats. Plus Chromeo is not a mainstream band and is pretty unique.

5.0 out of 5 stars 100% Excellent, September 17, 2007

I loved their first album but 'Fancy Footwork' has blown me away. This album is excellent the whole way through. The salty lyrics coupled with rich electronic beats makes this album one of my favorites for 2007. Just when I think I have a favorite song on this album, I fall in love with another.

I have barely even had a chance to begin listening to this album, and I have to say - it's ridiculous. In a good way. Listen to the samples here. If you like the samples, you'll like the album, which is infectious, funny, and over the top.

It's not groundbreaking. There are no jaw-dropping instrumental solos. Just good old electrofunkpop (is this what you'd call it?) that can put you into a real laughing sort of mood. If you're one of those dark and brooding take-my-music-deathly-serious types you'll hate this. If you're a goofball, the sort of person who likes to have fun and dance around their house with their friends, you'll probably love this.

If you listen to it for a good laugh or a good beat, you can't help but like Chromeo's new release. I don't even remember how I heard about these guys but I'm sure glad I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Did you like the last one?, June 27, 2007
This review is from: Fancy Footwork (Audio CD)
You will like this album EXACTLY as much as you liked the last one. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying it's a repeat by any means...in fact, they've come correct with an updated version that's pushed the appropriate boundaries without compromising their unique SMASH-A-DELIC FUNK. Kudos.

I saw them live at last year's Intonation Music Festival in Chicago.. righteous (*even though the promoters put them on WAY too early) If you get the opportunity to support them live, don't hesitate.

P.S. This is a real review from a real reviewer...beware company admen masquerading....

5.0 out of 5 stars Are you 80s?, November 11, 2008
This review is from: Fancy Footwork (Audio CD)
Do you like Electro-Funk? Are you still hanging somehow in the 80s disco style, but need some refresh? This is your record! Maybe it is old fashioned, maybe it is nothing really new.... but it is great production. You feel the fun they had in the studio while recording....

4.0 out of 5 stars Fancy footwork indeed..., October 24, 2008
This review is from: Fancy Footwork (Audio CD)
Stumbled on to this group as I was flipping through the channels one early morning and saw the video for 'bonafide lovin' on MTV(it was so early in the morning that MTV was actually showing music videos). Anyhow, upon arriving at work I spent a little bit of time listening to what was available of theirs on the web and got addicted. This album appeals to my secret love of eighties synth while still sounding fresh. Great track list, great songs, and great combination of talent(Jewish PHD student and Arab CPA).
Give this one a preview before you actually purchase it because its not for everyone, but I love it and have actually turned some of my friends on to it as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars More Songs About Bein' Chromeo!, August 2, 2008
By

As the title suggests, Fancy Footwork is a de-luxe dance album. ZAPPish synth-bass licks and robo-party beats drive a non-stop flow of songs about...yes...dancing. But Chromeo are men of class who like to mix it up, so there are also songs about partyin', songs about datin', and of course, songs about bein' Chromeo.

Old school Chromeo fans-turned-haters will tell you that Fancy Footwork is too studiofied, and while it's true that it doesn't have the warmth and variety of the first album, the slick production works well with the dance-party theme, and makes Chromeo's campy cool vocal delivery all the cooler. That said, the duo aren't too cool to be silly, as proven by the outrageous album cover art, dating advice delivered through talk-boxes, and the Supertramptastic keyboard intro to "Momma's Boy".

Along with the first Junior Senior album, the second Hyperbubble Album, and the third Freezepop album, Fancy Footwork is another great batch of tunes to take along on road trips, as every song's a winner, and the pace never drags. Put on your shades and let the pimptastic beats bump along...
