Romping musical mayhem,
This review is from: Fancy (Audio CD)
Idiot Flesh's second recorded cd. And oh my god does it shake the walls. A lot darker than their previous cd, Nothing Show. Kicking off with 'Dead Like Us,' once you learn the lyrics you too will joyously sing along with the raucous crows in the background. many of the songs stretch out well beyond the 5 minute mark. Rather than being a tedious listen each such track takes you on a wildly magnificent, extravagent ride. The music is layered with so many instruments that only repeated listens will do the album its full justice. If for no other reason this album should be bought for track ten 'The Straw,' an epic masterpiece taking words from the T.S. Eliot poem "The hollow Men" for lyrics. Unique, brilliant, one-of-a-kind, there will never be another band like Idiot Flesh. For those wanting to complete their collection of Idiot Flesh recordings also purchase Funny Rubber Hand and Rawk Party for the songs Monkey and Let the Dog Sing.

The Masterfully Stomach-Turning Forehead Blessing Music,
By Aaron Henson (Monmouth, Illinois USA) - See all my reviews

Let it be known, that Idiot FLesh was indeed a band like no other. I eagerly look foward to the online release of THE SLEEPYTIME GORILLAS MUSEUM (Nils Frykdahl's and Dan Rathbun's new band) CD. This collection of musical malladies is called by many reviewers as a more chaotic form of the Idiot Flesh recipe, and it without a doubt will be nothing short of masterful.Idiot Flesh's sound blends odd musical ends that most would find during the writing process tedious and overwhelming. Their odd off-beat take on rock mixed with cabaret musical styles, home made musical instruments (King of Basses, Percussion Guitar, etc), 20+ dancers, flamer breathers, freaks and idiots dancing like insane "chickens" on stage, makes for an almost holy musical experience. It's a tragedy and a crime that this band is broken up, but according to Vaccination Records, they will be reforming in the near future to release their third official album, so LOOK FOR IT! ....

Influential and noteworthy 1st edition schizo-rock,

A complete annihilation of normalcy, this spazzrock classic is needed in anyones record collection who ever appreciated the Mr Bungle approach of letting compositions write themselves from deep inside the fractured patchwork of cross-ideas in one's head. Basically this album is entirely all over the map, driving way past their alt-metal foundation. Throughout any given track the pace and tone change dramatically in an instant, perhaps the band exploits those mechanics a little too entirely, which absolutely makes for some alienating audio adventures, but the overall triumph of sheer jaded will and brutal uncompromising talent overshadow this album's overambitious reach.

One of my favorite albums,

This album is Idiot Flesh's best definately, and these guys are extremely creative and tallented, and excellently unorthodox. My favorite songs are Idiot Song and Straw. I love their use of makeshift instruments and unconventional song structure. This is the best album that Nils Frykdahl and Dan Rathburn have put out.

Too bad they broke up . . .,

One of the more original and fun bands to come out since Mr. Bungle. If you are sad they broke up, check out "Eat" by Charming Hostess. The guitarist, bassist, and drummer teamed up with a Jewish womens accapella group to form a unique blend of exotic rock. Don't expect "eat" to be another idiot flesh album; it's not as zany, but it is just as virtuosic and original

They are the blue head of the 15th century,

If you are daring enough to admit liking any of the original Ralph Records than you must get this CD. Idiot Flesh is not only the most incredible live show but the best band for stretching your mind like a cheap thong on Dom Deloise. I wanted original music and these guys made me realize my mistake. Come on be a filthy rotten excuse chicken and get the album...

Idiot Flesh is truly like no other band ever seen. The musicality is incredible, the skill with which these little boys weft and wove all that noise and imagery and philosophy, and and and snidence... END

....This is the way the world ends....not with a bang, but a whimper. Damn this has got to be the best recording ever made. If you thought that Mr. Bungle was cool, Think again. It's all about the Idiots!! Former members of Idiot Flesh are now in Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. Go check them out! SGM has got to be one of the best live acts I have ever seen!!

90's Residents,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fancy (Audio CD)
This album is one of the most weirdly original albums I've heard in the longest time. It's like a 90's Residents album (except The Residents are still together and the Idiot Flesh guys are good musicians). Um... they're also on Eyesore, the Residents tribute album, which is pretty good.
