Chance wants Fancy badly. . . but not as his wife.,
By
This review is from: Fancy (Leisure Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Perhaps it's because he first met her as a dance hall girl and assumed she was a whore. Anyway, Chance Dawson is determined to get Fancy in his bed. Fancy, struggling to keep her family fed, is not interested in his proposition. Dancing is the only way she can make a living in this logging town owned by. . . you guessed it. . . Chance Dawson. When he pressures her employer to fire her, Fancy is forced to bring her family to live in Chance's home.Although I did enjoy this book, I was aggravated by Chance's stubborn refusal to consider making her his wife, especially after he discovered her innocence. Considering that nearly every single man in the town would have jumped over hoops to marry her, his reluctance to claim her as his own seemed odd. Especially when she proved to be a great housekeeper and cook in addition to her other desirable characteristics. This circumstance caused me to doubt the depth of his love for her. Now if the author had given us a good REASON for his attitude, perhaps I could have accepted it. But I don't find it terribly romantic that he expected her to be ecstatic at the prospect of being his whore. . . especially when she had her family's welfare to consider.

WOW!! I have just finished this book and the first thing that comes to my mind is WOW!!! It was great! The characters were strong, and the plot was full of twists. There are only two reasons why this book got only four stars from me. The first and probably the biggest is Chance and Fancy's relationship. They had great chemistry, but their constant sniping at each other got a little old. And two, I was really dissapointed when Gil was killed. I would have loved to read a book about him. He was easy to love. Overall I'd say this was one of the better books, by far! I strongly reccomend it!!!

Great Book!!!,

Great book. You just kind of hate Chance through most of the book because he's constantly insulting Fancy and making excuses for it. It just makes the ending even better. I started at 2:30p.m. and i ended at 12:00 a.m. couldn't take my eyes of it more than an hour. Wonderful! The only thing i didnt like was the mess ups on the names. it was very confusing. highly recomended.

ODD BUT UNDERSTANDABLE ROMANCE!,

Chance Dawson wants the dancer, Fancy Cranson from the first moment he dances with her. Needless to say, her rejection of his magnaminous proposition [grin] and the slap to his face in front of his men didn't endear her to him. Ego and attitude, what a way to put the skids to a romance.Fancy, at 19, loved the way she got her name, has her cousin, Lenny, a handsome young man of 21 to look after. Misunderstanding?? You bet, Chance only sees a good looking young man escorting Fancy home and staying with her. Aha! Jealosy does its little deed. Jeb, an older scaler and camp cook knows and appreciated the better qualities of Fancy and Chance. He takes an occasional stab at straightening out their misconceptions. Big Myrt looks after her dancers and will not tolerate any man mishandling the girls if they refuse the mens' attentions. But there is one bad apple in the bunch, Pilar who wants any man in pants and especially Chance. The situation heats up when Chance is informed that his step-brother and his wife have drowned and left their son, Tod an orphan. Ahh! But did you know that Fancy's sister, Mary is Tod's mother? Chance refuses to give up all claims to Tod and so they must live together. Ah, now Chance will get Fancy in a position to be seduced. You have got to remember that Chance has only associated with "ladies of the night". Kind of colors his attitude. Ah well, you know what happens - he seduces her - she finds she has a long lost grandmother - she leaves with the boys - there is sabotage in the camp - Chance is hard to get along with - still no marriage in mind if he finds her - well it develops into a really intrigueing situation - Pilar ends up with Jeb's butcher knife in her back -- Guess Who????? More suspects in camp. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - [I guess women still turn out to be the weak characters - or are they meant to be seduced? Is that what keeps them breeding?] Execellent story - great characters - great pace.

"I'll take care of you. All you have to do is be waiting for me with open arms when I come in the from the woods at the of a hardworking day." Fancy is forced to work in a dance hall after the death of her father, in order to take care of her family. From the first time Chance meets Fancy he treats her like a whore, even after he realizes she is innocent. I made it half way through this book and there is no love. At this point I could never love Chance, and can not imagine how Fancy could either. I gave this book 2 stars only because I gave up half way to the end.

I bought this book through Amazon. I have not had a chance to read Fancy yet. But just by thumbing through it I can tell it is going to be a great book. I have read others by Norah Hess and have loved everyone. I would recommend this book to others.

Norah Hess books are the best books I have ever read. Fancy's attitude keeps you wondering what she is gonna do next. Once you start reading, you won't put it down.
