This is a great easy reader book. Talks about the joys of school and the loss of a pet. Handles in it in a creative way and shows the wonderful support system around a child.

We are HUGE Fancy Nancy fans, and I pre-ordered this book as soon as it became available on Amazon. It was going to be a Christmas gift for my 5 year old daughter. Upon reading it, I decided not to give it to her because it talks about the death of a family pet -- a goldfish -- and that was a not a topic that I was ready to broach with her. I can see how it would be helpful for those families who just lost a pet, but if you aren't ready to have the "death" talk, don't buy!

Great book for my four year old granddaughter! She loves Fancy Nancy and has just started school, this is perfect for her.
She is learning to read some words so she tries to pick out words she knows, it's a positive, fun book for little girls about life and school!! We love reading it together!

I've purchased so many Fancy Nancy books for my granddaughter, Mary Mace, that I've lost count of them. I sent her this one, synchronistically, a few weeks before she had her own 100th day of school project due in kindergarten! I didn't know that kids really did this...I thought it was just a great fictional plot. Mary Mace was tickled pink with the book and loved, loved, loved the story. In fact, her own 100th day of school project was so fancy and sparkly that even her teacher compared her to her role model, Fancy Nancy. If you have a little girl who loves to read, or loves great books read to her, then I highly recommend each and every Fancy Nancy book. My granddaughter's teacher told her Mom that she has the vocabulary of a much older child....and we give Fancy Nancy credit for teaching her many of these 'big' words. The hardbacks are more glittery, of course, but these little paperbacks are also just perfect for the small hands of little girls to put in their school backpacks.

Not My Favorite Fancy Nancy Title,

As anyone who follows my reviews knows, I check out every Fancy Nancy title because I have a daughter named Nancy who loves them. As she is just learning to read, these "I Can Read!" titles are particularly good. On the other hand, the titles in this series also vary more in quality than the other Fancy Nancy books.
This is not one of my favorite titles, mainly because it seems so arbitrary. I've been a teacher for 15+ years and I've never heard of a 100th day of school celebration. Additionally, there's not much of a lesson here, unless you count the death of Nancy's sister's goldfish, which seems out of place with the title. Still, quibbles. As a short book for my daughter to work on her reading with characters she likes, it does the job. It just that other books do it better.

Fancy Nancy: The 100th Day of School,

In school, all of the children are tasked with bringing in a collection of 100 things for the 100th day of school. Nancy is worried about finding something special and unique to bring, when those worries are overshadowed by the loss of her family's pet goldfish. Nancy decides to use her 100th day project to honor her lost pet, solving her original problem, and helping her cope with the death of the fish.
The book uses Nancy's typical fancy vocabulary, letting children learn some new words. The story will be easy for children to follow. The illustrations are colorful and lovely, as they are with all Fancy Nancy books. The plot being divided between the 100th day of school and the loss of a family pet led me to put this book at 4 stars instead of 5. It felt like too short of a book to adequately deal with both topics. But the ending did tie the two together, and it was still an enjoyable book.
