Sweet school story,
By
This review is from: Fancy Nancy: The Show Must Go On (I Can Read Book 1) (Paperback)
This sweet beginning reader story, THE SHOW MUST GO ON, takes place at school and focuses on preparation for an upcoming talent show. When Fancy Nancy gets paired with a boy who seemingly has nothing in common with her, they get to know each other better and eventually discover that they can perform a circus act. A wonderful school story!
Fancy Nancy is an adorable, smart, one-of-a kind character. If you're an elementary teacher working on a circus theme or a 'getting along' theme, or a parent who wants to encourage siblings to compromise and work things out, you may want to pair THE SHOW MUST GO ON with the new picture book, STAR OF THE SHOW by Della Ross Ferreri. In Ms. Ferreri's book, you'll meet Francine, the bossy big sister, (who is less goody-two-shoes than Fancy Nancy,)and her tag-along younger brother. They want to put on a cirus, but Francine hogs the spotlight and Max gets fed up being her assistant. Despite their mishaps and mess-ups, they both work together and put on a wildly successful circus. Star of the Show is a funny picture book, designed to be read aloud by the parent or teacher. Both STAR OF THE SHOW and THE SHOW MUST GO ON can lead to helpful discussions on strong characters and how to compromise and work together.

I have been saving these Fancy Nancy "I Can Read" books for my daughter, Nancy. She is not quite old enough to read them on her own, but that day is not too far away. So far, I have been quite pleased with these books. The stories are generally interesting and there are just enough "fancy words" to teach kids well. This book is no exception.
In this story, Nancy is assigned a shy boy as a partner for the school talent show. At first, Nancy is worried that their act will be a disaster. Then, she gets to know Lionel and they figure out a successful performance for the show. It's a nice lesson, subtly made. Overall, a good book.

The Show Must Go On,
By
This review is from: Fancy Nancy: The Show Must Go On (I Can Read Book 1) (Paperback)
Nancy is excited about the up-coming school talent show, until she learns that instead of being partners with her best friend, she has to be partners with Lionel, a boy that she doesn't really know. Lionel is shy, and doesn't seem to like any of the things that Nancy does. Her parents suggest that Nancy spend time with Lionel so that she can discover what they do have in common. During a visit to Lionel's house, Nancy learns that he loves lions, and from that their talent show act is created.
This makes for a great early reader for first and second grade girls. The story is enjoyable and easy to understand. Nancy's "fancy" language will help children learn new vocabulary words. The artwork is colorful and fun to look at. I would recommend this book for all Fancy Nancy fans.

Not a bad series,

This review is from: Fancy Nancy: The Show Must Go On (I Can Read Book 1) (Paperback)
I read the original Fancy Nancy book to my nieces, and, at the time, thought that the effect of Nancy stopping every other word to explain that "That's a fancy word for so-and-so" was a little annoying. Having now read several of the early readers, I can honestly say that it is MUCH less annoying when you're not the one reading the book aloud!
My niece (who is six and entering the first grade in a week!) found this book easy enough to read with only a little help from me. Help largely consisted of asking her to sound out a word a second time, asking her if the sentence "makes sense" the way she read it, or asking if she's SURE she saw a d (or b, or w) in that word. There were a few words I had to read *for* her, but not more than I'd expect from this style of book. However, it should be noted that she was one of the better readers in her kindergarten class. The revelation that Nancy makes that "Oh, you like LIONS because your name is LIONEL" is especially cute, and the story about befriending a shy kid you think you don't have anything in common with, though it's an overdone topic, is handled well. (Besides, maybe kids this age don't know it's a common topic yet.) I will also note that there are an awful lot of sentences on each page. This is a good book for kids in the later stage of "beginning readers", I think, not in the very early stage.

My daughter has just turned 3 and loves the stories of Fancy Nancy. I love them too as there is a little bit more in the story so that I don't get bored after reading it just once or twice.

I have purchased my granddaughter Isabella these books ever since I came across them. Isabella loves the books, the puzzles and the tea party game. This year I also purchased Splendiferous Christmas which is a wonderful book.

Love the Fancy Nancy series, always a favorite at reading time, this one didn't quite live up to expectations as much as some of the other Fancy Nancy books.

This was an exceptional book about the true meaning of women's friendship that brings support, strength, joy, hope and love through the years. I am going to circulate this book among a group of girlfriends who have been friends for over 50 years.
