Fang Island have created what I am sure will be one of the most talked about albums of 2010. With upbeat songs that brim with anthemic guitar riffs and group vocals, this album is amazing from start to finish. Standout tracks are Daisy, Life Coach, The Illinois and Treeton. The latter two meld together to create an epic, inspiring rock jam that invokes visuals of fireworks on the 4th of July or waking up on Christmas morning as a kid. Awesome album, and a great debut from Fang Island. Check it out!

Heard this at a local record store (Grimey's in Nashville) and bought it after hearing only the first three songs. Played the rest on the drive home without even once wanting to eject the CD. That hasn't happened in a long, long time.

I can't describe what makes this music different but on that first listen it was the melodic hooks and general music aesthetics but also the lack of importance given to the vocals. I'm so tired of the singer being the most important thing in music. Somehow these guys have found a way to create interesting tracks (showing off their great musicianship) while negating the need for standard vocal lines. I'm not quite sure why it works but it does. I've listened to this CD three times today.

I also love the recording. It's loud and boomy and out of control and full of clipped limiters but again, somehow these guys have turned that into something amazing.

It has enough arena rock to appeal to the masses but there's an underlying progness that appeals to music snobs like me. I love it. Can't wait to hear what they come up with ext time.

Great job!!

I decided to check out Fang Island after seeing that they were touring with Red Sparowes. I opened up their myspace page and saw a picture of a little girl dressed as a fairy fighting a man dressed as a castle. I was intrigued. After hearing Daisy, I was sold. Absolutely sold.

This album is pure magic - unlike anything I've heard before. A mixture of excellent musicianship and great songwriting creates something very special here. There's not a single weak track on the album. The beautiful conclusion to Sidewinder contrasts heavily and beautifully. Davey Crockett escalates in to an absolute behemoth of a song. The whole album is incredibly lighthearted.

I haven't enjoyed listening to a new album this much in quite some time. Fang Island is most definitely an early contender for my favourite album of the year.

If a double rainbow exploded, this is the sound that would come shimmering down. What does that even mean, you ask? Well, it means that if you are ever soaring high upon the back of Falkor the luckdragon from "The Neverending Story," this is the album that you should be fist pumping to. Simply put, it's freaking fun and it rocks! Erratic, yet beautiful infectious guitars interweave and uplifting vocals give this album a unique arena rocking sound. Any album that begins and ends with fireworks has got to be fun, right? If you dig the sound, make sure to get the "Absolute Place" Yeasayer Remix as well.

One of my favorite albums of the year. Such upbeat, happy, inspiring music. Always lifts the spirits, no matter what my mood is like.

The first three songs of Dreams of Dreams, Careful Crossers, and Daisy go brilliantly together. Daisy has become one of my favorite tracks of any band so far this year.

Give them a listen, there should be more bands like this, who sound like their having an awesomely good time while they are playing, because it really rubs off on the listeners.

One of the best of the year, 5 stars without a doubt.

What a discovery this album was: it makes me marvel at how much sheer talent might be lying out there, hopefully not fated to perish in obscurity.

My advice is: if, having listened to the Amazon sampler of an album right through and your impression is favourable, just get the album. In the last few months I adopted this approach with three albums (from bands that I would otherwise never have heard of) and they all turned out to be outstanding. One of these gems was "Fang Island".

Though this is not a concept album, there is something seamless and wonderfully telescoped about this sequence of songs. It's difficult to imagine any one of them making the same impact when played in isolation, and although I think this is something to do with the brevity of each tune (10 tracks sum to under 32 minutes), it's perhaps also attributable to the fact that each one explodes energetically from the dying notes of its predecessor. This album may be too low-profile so far to release a single from: but I think that will stand in its favour. Who would want a surprise this pleasant ruined?

Fang Island's sound is one of high-energy guitars and drums but always tightly coherent. It's very hard to say what their music is about, as the aforementioned brevity of their songs leaves little surface area upon which to stamp lyrics. Thus it sometimes feels as if each track is a rock instrumental with a single obligatory verse added. But please don't let that put you off: this is one of the great music discoveries of the last year. This band are solid and competent newcomers so talented they don't need to try anything flashy.

Cormac McCarthy; H.P. Lovecraft; and now Fang Island. Do all things edgy and talented emanate from Providence, Rhode Island?

Give them a shot: you won't regret it.
