Fang Island Inspire,
By Keller Madison (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fang Island (Amazon MP3 Exclusive Version) (MP3 Download)
Fang Island have created what I am sure will be one of the most talked about albums of 2010. With upbeat songs that brim with anthemic guitar riffs and group vocals, this album is amazing from start to finish. Standout tracks are Daisy, Life Coach, The Illinois and Treeton. The latter two meld together to create an epic, inspiring rock jam that invokes visuals of fireworks on the 4th of July or waking up on Christmas morning as a kid. Awesome album, and a great debut from Fang Island. Check it out!

Heard this at a local record store (Grimey's in Nashville) and bought it after hearing only the first three songs. Played the rest on the drive home without even once wanting to eject the CD. That hasn't happened in a long, long time.
I can't describe what makes this music different but on that first listen it was the melodic hooks and general music aesthetics but also the lack of importance given to the vocals. I'm so tired of the singer being the most important thing in music. Somehow these guys have found a way to create interesting tracks (showing off their great musicianship) while negating the need for standard vocal lines. I'm not quite sure why it works but it does. I've listened to this CD three times today. I also love the recording. It's loud and boomy and out of control and full of clipped limiters but again, somehow these guys have turned that into something amazing. It has enough arena rock to appeal to the masses but there's an underlying progness that appeals to music snobs like me. I love it. Can't wait to hear what they come up with ext time. Great job!!

Came out of nowhere.,

I decided to check out Fang Island after seeing that they were touring with Red Sparowes. I opened up their myspace page and saw a picture of a little girl dressed as a fairy fighting a man dressed as a castle. I was intrigued. After hearing Daisy, I was sold. Absolutely sold.
This album is pure magic - unlike anything I've heard before. A mixture of excellent musicianship and great songwriting creates something very special here. There's not a single weak track on the album. The beautiful conclusion to Sidewinder contrasts heavily and beautifully. Davey Crockett escalates in to an absolute behemoth of a song. The whole album is incredibly lighthearted. I haven't enjoyed listening to a new album this much in quite some time. Fang Island is most definitely an early contender for my favourite album of the year.
