5.0 out of 5 stars A funny werewolf cartoon, March 25, 2006
This review is from: Fangface (VHS Tape)
"Fangface" is a cartoon series from the late 1970's, and was the first series produced by the Ruby-Spears cartoon company. It is about four teenagers (Biff, Kim, Pugsey, and Sherman Fangsworth [nicknamed Fangs])who investigate supernatural mysteries. This series has much in common with Hanna-Barbara's Scooby Doo (probably partially do to the fact that Mr. Ruby and Mr. Spears used to work for Hanna-Barbara). However, unlike Scooby Doo, the supernatural creatures and phenomenonae in this series are always real, and instead of a great dane, this series features a werewolf (Fangface, who is the aforementioned Sherman Fangsworth). All that is required to turn Fangs into Fangface is the full moon (even a picture of the full moon), and all that is required to turn him back is the sun (or anything that looks like the sun). This leads to humourously unpredictable situations. Fangface helps the rest of the group solve often weird, and always funny, mysteries. The real characters in the series are Fangface and Pugsy, who always end up teamed up whenever the group splits to look for clues (much like Shaggy and Scooby Doo). The other two characters (Biff and Kim) have less of a personality, and are almost like neccesary extras. The animation isn't the best in the world (especially when compared with the animation of the 1920's through the 1940's) but it can sometimes be pretty good (especially during close-ups), and the series makes up for any mediocre animation with good-natured humour. If this particular tape is one I think it is, it actually contains three episodes (though the cover says it only has two). This is a pretty good cartoon series, and if you like Scooby Doo, or if you like werewolves, then you'll probably like this series. It is only unfortunate that the whole series has not yet been officially released on tape and DVD, though this will hopefully soon be corrected.
