Fangs for some great jazz!,
By Ray Neslowe "neslowe" (Grays Harbor, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fangs (Audio CD)
Tenor and organ albums don't get much better than this. A pair of Northwest tenor greats, Hadley Caliman and Gary Hammon nimbly work their way through a great set of hard bop classics and originals with the help of Nicholas Hoffman on guitar, Delvon Dumas on the B3 and Jud Sherwood on drums. Caliman and Hammon make for a formidable front line as they interpret Cedar Walton's "Ugetsu," Herbie Hancock's "Driftin'" and the breathtaking "On A Misty Night" by Tad Dameron. In addition, Hammon, Caliman and Hoffman provide wonderfully written originals that blend seamlessly into this brilliant set. Hammon's "Slightly in the Tradition" is worth the price of admission alone. Get it!
