5.0 out of 5 stars Call Me Old Fashioned, January 23, 2007
This review is from: The Fannie Farmer Cookbook Eleventh Edition (Hardcover)
Call me old fashioned, but I love this book. I received this when I was first married over 20 years ago and have worn it out. In fact, I'm currently keeping it together with a rubberband and post-it notes.

This is my go-to book for cakes, pies, breads, and other desserts. The pie crust recipe is the best you can find, and all of their fruit pies are worth trying. And if chocolate cake or frosting are your thing, you'll definitely want this cookbook in your library.

I've even found hard-to-find recipes for rice pudding and Floating Island. When was the last time you saw a recipe for Floating Island? So if you like old-fashioned cooking, you'll definitely want to add this book to your collection.

This review is from: The Fannie Farmer Cookbook Eleventh Edition (Hardcover)
6/14/05 The Copyright History alone make this 'The Fannie Farme Cookbook" ,a worthy book shelf collection(copyrights 1896-1914) by Fannie Merritt Farmer (copyrights 1915-1929 by Cora D Perkins) (copyrights 1930-1965 by Dexter Perkins Corp) and a Preface in this 1965 (11th Edition)by "Aunt Fannie"'s neice Wilma Lord Perkins who revised the cookbook, which preceeds the page "Preface to the First Edition" by F.M.F.(assumedly the original author). The "Epicurean Finnan Haddie"(Pg 133) as well as the many other recipes using 'dried fish" (Pgs 132-134)as well as an entire chapter on "Shellfish"(Pgs 135-151), make this book, one of the unique, among the many cookbooks I've scan. Even the section on "Fruit Cakes(elaborate,on pgs 475-478) with cross reference to "simple fruit cakes"(pgs 464-468)(Applesauce,spice,raisin gingerbread, chocolate fruit, white fruit and imperial cake) confirms that Wilma Lord Perkins kept the book as "a dependable basic" ,taking into account new techniques and products.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Cookbook Ever!, November 24, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the best cookbook you could ever own. My grandparents, parents, aunts, my sister and I all have this edition! I recently bought a copy for my SIL, as she cannot cook and I know my brother loves many of the recipes in this edition. I also just purchased a copy for a friend of mine who cannot cook. Hands-down the best cookbook you will ever own.

4.0 out of 5 stars high school, August 13, 2009

The All New Fanny Farmer cookbook was the one I used in Home Economics in high school, way back in the late sixties. My copy has been used so much it was looking pretty sad and some pages were missing. I was hoping to find a copy of the one I loved from High School but it was not available so I decided this one was probably close and it is. Lot of my favorite recipes without all the smudges and spots and no missing pages. I LOVE IT !

A fine, basic cookbook with lots of great recipes and helpful cooking advice. With Fannie Farmer and Joy of Cooking you've got recipes and help to prepare just about anything. If I could only have one cookbook it would be Fannie Farmer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good old-fashion recipes, March 24, 2010

Good to read a cookbook that does not use exotic ingredients. Also back to the basic cooking utensils and equipment. Those were the good ole days.
