Miss Fannie's Hat,
By Carol Dinsmoore (Alabama) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Miss Fannie's Hat (Paperback)
My daughter (age 3) loves this book! She enjoys looking forher favorite hat each time we read it. Having read the Mitford series,I was glad to see that Jan Karon had written children's books aswell. The illustrations in the book are great, nice and vivid. It's a very cute and fun book to read. It's a loving story not just about the hat, but the relationship that Miss Fannie has with her daughter. That is a story of it's own. It's a great book to give as a gift to anyone, adult or child. Jan Karon is a superb writer and I look forward to purchasing more books written by her for myself, as well as for my children. Another great book written by her that we have purchased is "Jeremy". Enjoy!

A sweet, well-written book that all of my children enjoyed!,

This book was a great find that teaches the importance of giving. It also portrays the aged Miss Fannie in such a way that it allowed my children to appreciate the incredible worth of the elderly. Even though it was a children's book, I found myself with a tear in my eye as I finished reading it aloud. This will be a gift I choose for friends with children!

Having read the Mitford series by Jan Karon, I was thrilled to discover she also has written children's books. I know a lady just like Miss Fannie at my church. It's a wonderful story for old and young alike. My women's group had everyone wear hats to their May meeting and shared this book with all the gals. They loved it. And the surprise at the back of the book is really enjoyed by my granddaughters.

What a sweet story! Anyone who has ever had a sweet, active grandmother will love this book. Lots of color, and just a fun read. I am a grandmother and I bought it for me! I have read all of Jan Karon's books and you can't go wrong with her stuff.

Jan Karon has done it again! Not only has she kept me spellbound with The Mitford Years, but Jan Karon has created a terrific platform for children's books as well.Miss Fannie's Hat is a wonderful, true story about Jan Karon's own grandmother, that demonstrates the joys of sacrifice. A lesson can be learned from Miss FannieÑI can only pray that Jan Karon writes more children's books about her grandmother!

At first I thought that this book, a gift, would be a "dud." But was I WRONG! This is one of my 5-year-old daughter's favorite books. I like the book because of its simplicity, and its underlying themes of generosity and faith.

We all know a "Miss Fannie",

This review is from: Miss Fannie's Hat (Paperback)
This book is a great find -- and a wonderful way to teach children about the benefits of giving, but not just giving -- giving your best! Miss Fannie's self-less decision to give her very best to a worthy cause is inspiring. The very fact that she does so after consulting with God in prayer only makes the lesson all the more important. And the illustrations are pure joy! Great book!

A Great book!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Miss Fannie's Hat (Paperback)
Miss Fannie is ninety-nine years old and lives with her daughter Wanda. She reads the Bible everyday and has worn out three of them. Miss Fannie is known for her hats of various kinds. She never wears the same hat twice in a row. Every hat has a special meaning to her and brings back memories from her childhood. Every Easter Sunday for thirty-five years Miss Fannie wears her pink straw hat with silk roses. She was asked to donate a hat to auction off by the preacher at her church. After a long time deciding she finally chose the pink straw hat with silk roses. Knowing it would raise a lot of money to fix up the church. This year on Easter morning Miss Fannie goes to church without wearing a hat. When she arrives at church they had planted pink roses in her honor. I thought this book was great and would recommend it. I would recommend it because it taught how to give up something that is special to you so other people can benefit from it. ~ Katelyn Carson

An Important Book to Share with Children,
This review is from: Miss Fannie's Hat (Paperback)
This book covers so many themes that are needed for today's children! The importance of learning about and respecting their elders, the importance of giving and of making sacrifices, and the the importance of church community. In addition to the powerful themes, the story and illustrations are excellent! This is an especially wonderful book for a grandparent to give to a grandchild...

Great for a tea party!,

Recently our daughter celebrated her 5th birthday with Miss Fannie's Hat being the center of storytime. After all the guests decorated straw hats to wear, it was heartwarming to watch them as they wore their hats and listened to how Miss Fannie was a person who was caring and unselfish. All the girls loved the story and we're now passing on copies of the book as birthday presents to the girls who attended the party. A must have for any girl's book collection.
