Real music,
By modifiedcontent (Brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fantasia Barrino: American Idol Miracles (Audio CD)
I totally agree with James Volk's comment this CD should be judged for what it is, a representation of 'a truely unique American style of music, Southern Gospel'. So here's a repost of my review for the original CD listed as just Barrino Family - Miracles:
Underproduced? It's a local independent gospel album. What do you expect? It's basically a live recording with a few overdubs, like records were produced in the sixties and seventies. This is what real music sounds like, people! The band is tight, dominated by funky keyboard players Jerry Allen and Boysie Bowden. Jo Barrino has a great voice - think Johnnie Taylor (or Kci & JoJo of course)? Diana Barrino's voice is a bit unsteady and weak in places. Fantasia's voice is still developing, but she already outshines her mother on Meet Me Half Way, What Shall I Give and Teach Me Oh Lord. There's something magical about her voice. The song material is fine. Maybe not the most original, but no less original than Prince's output in recent years. (Love In The Name is excellent BTW) Most songs are slow soul numbers. Almighty God is traditional gospel. New Wine and Amen are uptempo rockers with high synthesizer chords. Jesus Is Coming Soon almost has a latin feel. This may not be a classic, but it is an hour of pure, honest and well-balanced music. And the seeds of greatness are all over this album.

Come on, Fantasia!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Fantasia Barrino: American Idol Miracles (Audio CD)
Fantasia is absolutely amazing. I get chills down my spine when I hear her sing, she has a gift that should be shared with the world. I live in the UK, but was still hooked to American Idol. I do not have the same oppurtunity to but albums and see how she has done out of the show, but I will always remember her singing "summertime". Latoya was also brilliant and should never have been voted off. Fantasia is absolutely brilliant. She has, to quote the title of the new talent show over here (and Simon Cowell) "The X-factor!"

SPIRITUALLY GIFTED & CREATIVE,
By Daezee (Largo MD, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fantasia Barrino: American Idol Miracles (Audio CD)
I watched Fantasia throughout the entire American Idol season. Her voice has a blend of Patti LaBelle and Aretha all wrapped in one. She is a very unique, talented & gifted young lady, very spiritually grounded. Her parents did a fantastic job in preparing her for the music industry. GOD has granted her with a voice that is truely a blessing. My daughter is a huge fan of Fantaisia and ordered the Gospel C.D. I can't get enough of it. It's a shame that it took Fantasia to win the American Idol title to put the cd on the map. People have to get over race issue's and see artist for their true talent. If we go back through the competition, Fantasia connected with the audience in every single performance. I'm truely proud of her not because she is african american , but because she is gifted and deserving of all that God sends her way.
