Real music,
By modifiedcontent (Brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fantasia Barrino: American Idol Miracles (Audio CD)
I totally agree with James Volk's comment this CD should be judged for what it is, a representation of 'a truely unique American style of music, Southern Gospel'. So here's a repost of my review for the original CD listed as just Barrino Family - Miracles:
Underproduced? It's a local independent gospel album. What do you expect? It's basically a live recording with a few overdubs, like records were produced in the sixties and seventies. This is what real music sounds like, people! The band is tight, dominated by funky keyboard players Jerry Allen and Boysie Bowden. Jo Barrino has a great voice - think Johnnie Taylor (or Kci & JoJo of course)? Diana Barrino's voice is a bit unsteady and weak in places. Fantasia's voice is still developing, but she already outshines her mother on Meet Me Half Way, What Shall I Give and Teach Me Oh Lord. There's something magical about her voice. The song material is fine. Maybe not the most original, but no less original than Prince's output in recent years. (Love In The Name is excellent BTW) Most songs are slow soul numbers. Almighty God is traditional gospel. New Wine and Amen are uptempo rockers with high synthesizer chords. Jesus Is Coming Soon almost has a latin feel. This may not be a classic, but it is an hour of pure, honest and well-balanced music. And the seeds of greatness are all over this album.

Come on, Fantasia!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Fantasia Barrino: American Idol Miracles (Audio CD)
Fantasia is absolutely amazing. I get chills down my spine when I hear her sing, she has a gift that should be shared with the world. I live in the UK, but was still hooked to American Idol. I do not have the same oppurtunity to but albums and see how she has done out of the show, but I will always remember her singing "summertime". Latoya was also brilliant and should never have been voted off. Fantasia is absolutely brilliant. She has, to quote the title of the new talent show over here (and Simon Cowell) "The X-factor!"

SPIRITUALLY GIFTED & CREATIVE,
By Daezee (Largo MD, USA) - See all my reviews

I watched Fantasia throughout the entire American Idol season. Her voice has a blend of Patti LaBelle and Aretha all wrapped in one. She is a very unique, talented & gifted young lady, very spiritually grounded. Her parents did a fantastic job in preparing her for the music industry. GOD has granted her with a voice that is truely a blessing. My daughter is a huge fan of Fantaisia and ordered the Gospel C.D. I can't get enough of it. It's a shame that it took Fantasia to win the American Idol title to put the cd on the map. People have to get over race issue's and see artist for their true talent. If we go back through the competition, Fantasia connected with the audience in every single performance. I'm truely proud of her not because she is african american , but because she is gifted and deserving of all that God sends her way.

Barrino Family Miracles CD,
This review is from: Fantasia Barrino: American Idol Miracles (Audio CD)
As an avid gospel music listener, this CD should have gotten more exposure than it did prior to Fantasia's big break. Thank God for Miracles. We have to accept them however they come. I enjoy listening to this CD daily. I especially put it in the disc player with other gospel CD's whenever I need comforting. I am proudly encouraging others to buy and listen to it.

A review of the cd, NOT the program or person!,

I really enjoyed this CD. I happen to think that Fantasia is a very talented young lady who is destined to become someone very special in the music industry. I find it rather comical that people have begun using this review forum as a method of expressing any opinion that comes into their head, yet avoiding discussion about the music itself. This CD was uplifting and very representitive of a truely unique American style of music, Southern Gospel. It is what it is, a CD intended to showcase a family's faith in God, not a means of commercial exploitation. Give us all a break, spread something positive in the world for a change and try to refrain from spreading contempt.

Fantasia and the Barrino family are blessed vocally,

Come on now. all these negative comments are just unreal. Fantasia is the best singer to hit the industry since Aretha and Patti as far as i'm concerned. her vocal range is out of this world, and she sounds nothing and i mean NOTHING like Macy Gray. She sounded great on the Miracles album and she sounds even better now. She deserved to be the American Idol. And for all those who think this album was unprofessional, you obviously do not know anything about southern gospel music. This CD was full of inspiration, praise, and worship. Fantasia as well as her family are blessed spiritually and vocally. This CD was worth 10 STARS and I recommend it to anyone. FANTASIA KEEP DOING YOUR THING GIRL. YOUR FANS WILL SUPPORT YOU

Phenomenal voice from a remarkable talent,

Fantasia Barrino won our hearts on American Idol and proves she's no flash in the pan with her newest CD. Fantasia's personal story - working class family, single mom - makes her success all the more deserved. She's not just a great talent, she's a great role model for women, and it will be wonderful to watch her develop as an entertainer in the years to come. Highly recommend

Hatred and Prejudice is Bad for the Heart & Soul,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fantasia Barrino: American Idol Miracles (Audio CD)
The cd sounds excellent. Don't be angry that Fantasia won the American Idol title. No matter what nasty comments you have to say about her singing and her music, you can never take that title away from her. If you believe in God, pray and ask him to take hatred and prejudice out of your hearts and maybe one day you will see that Fantasia deserves that title 100%.

Fantasia is Talented,
By TY (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fantasia Barrino: American Idol Miracles (Audio CD)
I hear so many people that say Fantasia Barrino can't sing, but she has an amazing voice and she is able to sing a variety of music. Diana was okay, but she can't light a candle to the stage presence and vocal range of Fantasia. I am proud that she is representing my home state of North Carolina. She should be an inspiration to those who are trying to make it. The negative responses I have heard about Fantasia have more to do with her background and not her vocals. We need to look at the talent of the person and not how she has lived her life. But unfortunately that is the kind of country we live in. We live in a world that promotes hatred and racial discrimination. Her stage presence and her vocal skills is why she won American Idol, and let the truth be told the only competition Fantasia had was LaToya London and Jennifer Hudson. Not based on race, but based on actual talent. American Idol is a talent competition not a racial driven show. I guess some people didn't hear what Elton John said, and how so many of the mainstream stars loved Fantasia. The public needs to grow up and know before we need to stop judging people based on economics and race, but we need to get to know people based on the fact we are all human and share ideas and struggles.

Not very good...for collectors and avid fans only.,
By Callie (Dallas, Tx) - See all my reviews

If you simply must have everything Fantasia records then it is interesting as far as a memorabilia item that reflects Fantasia's develoment as a singer. If you're looking for a good Gospel Album ... this isn't it.There's too much good music out there to sink top dollar into this below average amateur sounding CD. Im sure that with the connections Fantasia will make her family will be able to produce something much better in the future.
