4.0 out of 5 stars Another winner from Alex Ubago. No sophomore jinx.
Alex Ubago's outstanding 2002 debut came out of nowhere for me. As I said in that review it actually came from the great reviewers, who to me are the core of the Amazon.com family. Thank you for your reviews as I keep discovering some unknown gems and have managed to stay away from stuff that is not so good due to your collective efforts!

1.0 out of 5 stars Una lata - A can
The translation from English for something coming out of a can, is the same word as lata. This means that it is not made at all from anything precious, and now is used to describe something bad. Though he has some talent, the CD is repetitive and boring. Hope the guitar player actually copyrighted his music, because he is the one for credit!

When I saw that he was releasing his second CD, I was afraid that there could be a sophomore jinx, especially when one considers that all of the songs of that CD came from writing and recording a bunch of songs for his then girlfriend. Would Alex be a one trick pony? For those of us who enjoyed his first release, I can safely say that this one is even better than the debut. The beautiful voice is still there, the song writing is heartfelt, and this time the musical arrangements are better AND here we actually get a couple of uptempo gems ("Allí Estaré" and "Salida") that fit Alex like a glove.

As with his debut CD, I give this release 4 well-earned stars. One thing that some may notice is that lack of immediately obvious out of the ballpark hit singles that were found in his debut, although "Dame Tu Aire" "Prefiero," and "Por Tantas Cosas" (my favorite song with great lyrics and a musical arrangement that really takes off) and the two uptempo songs highlighted above. However, this group of songs flows even better than in Alex's debut, but I do wish that he would let loose with even more uptempo numbers and different musical arrangements to mix things up even more.

A couple of minor quibbles: For some reason Warner Music Latina chose to vary the song selection from that released in Spain. In the US version two songs ("Lo Mas Grande" and "No Soy Yo") are omitted and replaced by three of the best songs ("Sin Miedo A Nada," "A Gritos De Esperanza" and ¿Qué Pides Tu?) from Alex's debut. My feeling is that the record company believes that Alex will break out here in the States and that since for many this will be their first taste of Alex, they wanted to pump it up with proven hits. Although I can understand it, its not too fair to those of us who bought the first CD and love it. At the very least, the two songs omitted should have remained as they would have fit even with the songs from the debut.

In a nutshell, Alex is a talent to be reckoned with and I think that he is here to stay. Latin pop is finally making major inroads in the US and I hope that the trend continues as my musical diet needs a little of everything and it certainly had been missing Alex Ubago's contribution.

4.0 out of 5 stars This album is missing 2 songs and were replaced with others, February 27, 2004
This album is missing the songs "Lo Mas Grande" and "No Soy Yo", the songs we're replaced with 3 songs from album #1, the songs are "Sin Miedo A Nada", "A Gritos de Esperanza" and "Que Pides Tu?".

This album is great but why did Warner Music Latina decided not to include the other songs?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelente !, March 4, 2004
By A Customer

5.0 out of 5 stars Profundo y Completo, June 26, 2004
Escuchenlo and you'll love him!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Most Adorable Voice of Our Time!, June 5, 2004

Don't get me wrong for rating just four stars for this, I love both of Alex's albums and his work with all my heart.

I actually know nothing about the Spanish language or Spainish artists. Some Danish guy I met on the internet gave me the www.alexubago.com URL, and I was absolutely stunned by Alex's outstanding performance! After listening to all the demoes available on the website, I immediately clicked on Amazon.com and purchased both of his albums!

I love Alex for his guitar-playing, composing talents, singing skills, extraordinary voice, and, above all, his devotion to his music I heard from his albums. It seems singing comes as naturally as breathing to Alex. I don't have any idea what the lyrics say, but I'm deeply touched by the width, depth and the effection in his voice, which is so powerful yet heartfelt and story-telling, just as some other reviewers mentioned. Besides, Alex's indeed capable of illustrating a vision with his voice. When listening to his music, I picture him singing on the top of a green mountain with his arms stretched out, especially in "Dame tu aire" and "Por tantas cosas."

Despite the fact that Latin music is very rarely found in Taiwan except for those by the likes of Enrique Iglesias, Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, etc., I was surprised to find that some of us here do know about him, and all of these people do enjoy his music. I guess that good music does spread out itself, and valuable artists just can't hide their coruscation.

What worries me most is that Alex's got 58 concerts in Spain, and a lot others in America in 2004, which could exhaust his voice and his time to work on new songs. I'll keep my fingers crossed for him.

Both of his albums are excellent from the beginning to the end. Then why only four stars? Two songs are ommitted in this album. It's a great loss for us. This makes the album incomplete.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best CD!!, May 8, 2005
I love this CD very much!! I'm a fan of Ubago and when I first heard his music it was like dreaming. He knows how to write and sing. He is a wonderful person. My favorite song on the cd is "Aunque no te pueda ver" and "A Gritos de Esperanza" I also have his first cd but this one is a lot better. Keep up the good work Alex.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alex Ubago is beyond Awesome!!!!, November 3, 2005
I am in love with this album, it is absolutely wonderful! All his songs have a nice flow and he has a talented voice. His first album Que Pides Tu? was all about romance and now this is about all the rest. Por Tantas Cosas was dedicated to his parents and the lyrics in that song are so nice! Dame tu aire was the song that my boyfriend and I heard the first time we went out so the song means a lot to me as i'm sure it does to others. Aside from his great songs, as a person he has a great personality and he is "muy sencillo" and knows how to touch a girl's heart. If this is the first time you will be hearing his music you won't regret it at all, this cd is worth every cent!
