Tallis Fantasia-Beautiful,
By "mippolitoa" (Brandon, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and Other Works for Orchestra in Full Score (Dover Music Scores) (Paperback)
The Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis is one of the most beautiful works ever for string orchestra. Anyone with an inclination towards Ralph Vaughn Williams or just English music would love this piece. The score is easy to read and the 1st and 2nd orchetras and the solo string quartet are easily distinguished.

Worth the investment!! Some excellent choices to open the world of the music of this superb 20th century composer. Scores are easy to read even though there are some print issues as to format, but not enough to avoid getting this collection. The Norfolk Rhapsody is simply beautiful and with a solid recording with this score in hand, should give any serious musician great pleasure to study, especially the scoring RVW masterfully utilizes. Along with The Wasps Overture, Christmas Carols, and Tallis, one can get a true insight to the creative style of this composer. |
