A good four player game that isn't just minigames!,

This review is from: Fantastic 4 Silver Surfer (Video Game)
I like this game because it's a multiplayer ACTION game for the Wii, not just bowling or wario type minigames. The graphics are good, four player is fun. You can join in at any time which is nice. Really fun to play with other people - a great parent-child game. Kind of like a more action-oriented version of XMen Legends or Marvel Ultimate Alliance. A good, fun action game - not too deep, but definitely a good time.

It's CLOBBERIN' TIME! Or at least FOOM time,

For all you old timers who actually know what FOOM means (Friends Of 'Ol Marvel) or MMMS (Merry Marvel Marching Society), here's a decent entry for your Wii library. It's a level by level smash the scrulls game that most six-year olds can play. My son got the hang of it after one session and was hooked.
Downsides: Be forewarned, it does not follow the traditional story line. If you're a fan of the comic book, leave them by the side of the video monitor. You won't get cool villans. Just some very fuzzy scrulls that appear quite insect like. In the comic book, these suckers actually invaded Earth from outer space. If I recall correctly, it was Mole Man who resided under Earth. It can get mighty repetitive. After the umpteenth time of destroying scrulls, you have another level and guess what--more scrulls! The characters are given some powers that they are "supposed to have" and other times, it's like what is going on here. For example, Mr. Fantastic stretches--cool. But, he can also emit LIGHTENING BOLTS from his hands to open draw bridges--huh? The dialogue boxes that pop up can be sort of like watching a bad version of VH-1. The jokes are not funny. And, they send the wrong message to kids. Imagine your child repeating these obnoxious lines to their siblings, parents, teachers...etc. Like most branded character games, you don't get a sense that much was put into this. There's no grand imperative like being good or learning responsibility with your new found powers. It's just a fight and puzzle game in disguise. I mean come on programmers, you're dealing with one of the finest intellectual properties in the world--can't you make it a little worthwhile for the true Marvel and new Marvel fans? Upsides: Multi-player game. You can activate two Wii controls. Change your character. Only one person can be a character at a time. It's good that way. Each superhero has its own personality and power. Thing: smashes stuff. Mr. Fantastic: Stretches (though those lightening bolts out of his hands were a little far-fetched)...you get the idea. You get to see the Thing in action. He's strong. He smashes. It takes you into a world where you have to figure out how to get to the next place. Pretty simple stuff. Spoiler (I think): We were talking about new games at our local game store when the manager of the store said, "Too bad--there's no Silver Surfer in it." My six-year old's jaw practically fell to the floor. He said, "Dad, is that true?" I replied, "How would he know? Do you think he actually got to the end of the game?" So, I have no idea if Silver Surfer appears or not. But, we are crossing our fingers. If he doesn't, we're going to send Galactus to Earth and have him insert Silver Surfer into all existing copies of the game! Have fun. And, remember to smash those green cannisters when you can so the scrulls don't come back.

Back when I was young - being Superman was the thing - but later as I learned the Super Hero universe was huge - The Human Torch - was always a good runner up to the Man of Steel!
Wii has introduced a game that is not only fun, challenging and visually interesting - but one that allows you to be all the team! You can switch from The Invisible Girl to The Thing to Mr. Fantastic to The Human Torch. Fighting villians and henchman and figuring out puzzels and powers and various movements of all kinds to get you to the secret missions and solve the evil plans of Dr. Doom - that is your goal! The movements and transition of the characters are way too cool as well. Playing with more than one person is really more fun - because the system knows exactly how to keep up to all of the four players very busy! There are levels to achieve as well as points and mission objectives to master and when your game objectives are reached - your abilities change and become even more stronger. The graphics are detail;ed and very futuristic and the game play is fun and smooth. There are points that could be made clearer in terms of the story when you are trying to think of what to do next - but when you step away - some of the answers to the puzzels are pretty obvious. That would be my only down-side. And - It's not a game about blood and guts either - which I like very much - although there is a lot of fighting and enemy attacks! I like this game a lot. The on-screen prompts will guide you as well as some hysterical comments made by the Fantastic Four team themselves. I think that all kids and adults of all ages will like this one and play it often. If you like action, adventure, puzzel solving and mission objective gaming - this one is for you. The music and graphics only enhance the entire experience of paly. Go get it!
