Brilliant! 100 stars!,

I don't usually read short stories, but I loved all of the author's crime fiction novels, so I just had to read this. These stories are amazing...incredibly well written, suspenseful and thought provoking. The subtleties are brilliant, as are both the dialong between characters and the description of the characters' thoughts. I always felt like I could understand and relate to each character. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

I have to agree that if I could give this book 100 stars I would. I feel like each story is jewel in itself and I'm continually amazed that I'm drawn into each one. This book is incredibly well written and each story is so different from the next. By far my favorite Sophie Hannah book yet!

Decent but not what I've come to expect from this author,

I have such mixed feelings about this book! On the one hand, I really enjoy reading short stories, and some of these were great. I'm also a huge, huge fan of Sophie Hannah's novels, so I feel like I went into this collection with high expectations. All in all, these expectations were not met. As I've said, some of the stories were wonderful... but more than a few left me frustrated, whether because they dragged on for far too long or, conversely, ended far too abruptly. Halfway through the book I decided to put it aside and come back to it later, which is rare for me. Overall, not terrible by any means but definitely a disappointment.
