5.0 out of 5 stars I love DSP, June 1, 2007
This review is from: Fantastic Distraction (Audio CD)
A few of the songs aren't quite up to par with the previous album, but I love this CD (along with most of the 5 Minute Walk / SaraBellum catalog). My favorite track is probably the brooding "Heavy as it Goes," great way to end the recording carrier of a great band. Intelligent and challenging lyrics, great music. Justin Steven's vocals are an acquired taste, but addictive once acquired. Give it a chance and you won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good, July 5, 2002

I generally don't like Christian music, simply because most of it is cheesy. Dime Store Prophets, though, has surprisingly intelligent lyrics, and I dig the Southern Rock sound. There are a couple cheesy tracks on the CD, but I think the purpose behind them was fun, and not to deliver a serious message, so it's okay.

The best songs on the album are the title track, Boxing Shadows, and Suckers Alchemy.

Oh, and one more reason I like the album, it's got a sullen feel to it, which is unique in Christian music. It's not the happy-go-lucky attitude that most bands try to convey.
