Besides a great read for a winter's day, this book also inspires. Racism is something that can paralyze us with despair, but while reading this book I was struck by how it expertly captured the story of resistance! This story shows that it is important for us to reach into the practical, people's history to get at the facts that demonstrate courage and hope, facts that we can recover thanks to books like this. Also, I don't know if it is the authors background as a leader of tours, but I found the prose to be very accessible, kind of like I was walking around interacting with people and places. Rick
