Bernard Herrmann is one of the best composers in the last century. He was capable of conveying emotions with incredible music. His scores always evoked responses from audiences that helped movie directors make their point. Being a big fan of Ray Harryhausen and Alfred Hitchcock, I always was happy to see when Bernard Herrmann did the scores for any of their movies. Herrmann made any of their great movies become magnificent with his beautiful themes. I bought this CD many years ago and it is one of the best movie theme CDs you will ever find. Especially for fans of SciFi and Fantasy movies.

This CD features some of Bernard Herrmann's best music. Each track is awesome. Awesome as in awe-inspiring. My favorite Herrmann disc, and I've got a lot of Herrmann.

*Anybody notice the similarity between the opening few minutes of "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" and Danny Elfman's main Batman theme? It's uncanny. Did Danny Elfman plagiarize this?

This is a expressive work and if you liked any other CD from Bernard Herrmann, you really like this.

Fantasy Film World Of Bernard Hermann ? Im sure its good .But I have the Mysterious Film World of the conductor.Its riviting,astonishing piece of material I have ever heard on cd!Each track is powerfully sounded.Mastered very well.My favorite tracks go from 1 to 9. Mysterious Island 1 to 5 and Jason and the Argonauts 6 to 9.The rest is by The Three Worlds of Guliver which is good to but the others are very moving!I do recomend this cd .It was pricy even in the used end of it .I thought it was worth it.Its a gold cd .The main titles of the music seem pretty rare material .Maybe thats why you can understand for the price. The label is by London. His orchestra he conducts is so on with every track.So I hope this review helps you shoppers out there if your looking for this type of music. The art work is unique.Really stands out. Very colorful.

Yeah, the purchase of this one was over twenty-five years ago, but it introduced this listener to an institution in the field of film scoring. Four of his most challenging works are represented here, chief among them, the highly influential score to the Robert Wise legendary film "The Day the Earth Stood Still". Herrmann's music is as thought provoking and enigmatic as the film for which it was crafted.

"Gort" woulda been proud.
Quibbling about the cost? Well, a true fan would have bought it on its initial release.

That's what happens with a missed opportunity; you've got to "pay the piper".
