A cooperative adventure game based on the work of H.P. Lovecraft.
Every element of Eldritch Horror is designed to immerse you in its narrative theme of world-spanning horror and adventure.
Eldritch Horror is designed so that no two adventures are alike.
Each Ancient One gives a different shape to the game, determining what horrors are unleashed on the globe, what mysteries you must solve, and how you can achieve victory. Depending on who you must defeat, you might face treacherous seas, hasten doom whenever you enter an Other World, or find monsters infesting every corner of the world.
Your journey across the globe will always be unique. Hundreds of cards provide an immense variety of encounters, ensuring that even if you remain in one location, you are continuously discovering unfamiliar horrors and facing fresh challenges. Every turn of this immersive and vivid game takes you into the unknown.
The twelve investigators of Eldritch Horror come from all walks of life and corners of the earth, brought together by the terrible knowledge that the world is in danger and by their determination to save it.
Whether you seek answers buried beneath the sands of Egypt, scattered amongst the ruins of remote islands, or high atop the Himalayas, these adventures can be even more treacherous and rewarding by adding Eldritch Horror's expansions to your game. These boxed sets are full of additional items, spells and investigators that enhance the game with new, thematic content. Each expansion also includes at least one new Ancient One and their insidious minions for you encounter and hopefully defeat in an effort to save all of mankind.

At its heart, "Eldritch Horror" is a story telling game. Players search the globe for clues in order to solve mysteries that will prevent an Elder God from coming back to Earth to destroy humanity. In each location they visit they encounter ghouls or smaller mysteries, usually requiring them to roll dice equal to their specific skill set. Characters also are given the ability to enhance their skills by visiting certain locations. One of my favorite aspects of the game is how when your character dies, you are not eliminated, you simply select a new character to play. Your original character does not just disappear however- he becomes an encounter and your new character or someone else may attempt to gain their fallen comrade's clues and assets. It's really a cool mechanic that I haven't seen before, and adds to the thrilling, grand narrative.
If you like grand adventure games and enjoy a fun, horror theme, you really need to get your hands on "Eldritch Horror." I'm already jazzed thinking about what future expansions will bring to this wonderful game!
Before we even came close to considering purchasing the game, we did some research, (our big mistake with AH). After seeing that it was faster and got rid of the heaviness of AH, we decided to enter the battle against the Ancient Ones again. Am I glad we did!
We love playing this game! It has everything that you want from an HP Lovecraft themed game, without all the heaviness and clumsy mechanics. If you loved the idea of what AH was but hated actually playing it, this game will scratch that itch and more!!! But do your own research! Lots of great play through videos on youtube to demonstrate the play. They are long but well worth the watch to make a good decision and learning the play.
Overall the game is great fun. It is Arkham on a global scale yet more manageable and easier to jump into. Also, the theme still holds up. And as always, Fantasy Flight components are top notch.
Only word of warning: it comes with only four Ancient Ones. I'm assuming, like Arkham, there are many expansions forthcoming.
Ordering the game soothed my compulsion for a time, but then I made the mistake of checking the tracking information--and it hadn't even shipped yet! How could it reach me from the depths of the pyramids, across the heavy storms and choppy seas that had so plagued the Atlantic to reach my 2nd story flat in San Francisco in the mere two days promised delivery date. I checked the tracking info again fifteen minutes later, then ten minutes after that, and found myself caught in the grip of paranoia, unable to leave my phone for more than seconds at a time.
Forty eight hours and no sleep later I finally laid my hands on the box. I ripped the plastic shrink wrap away with one swipe of my gnarled, clawed fingers and slid the lid off the box to find--a serious product review:
Overall component quality is top notch--but number/storage of components is abysmal. You've got pretty standard punch out cardboard fiddly bits (though perhaps more of them then you are used to), and several (literally over a dozen) decks of cards.Read more ›
