From the Manufacturer

Epic WWII Squad-Level Combat  TIDE OF IRON is the definitive board game of WWII squad-level combat, for 2-4 players. With streamlined, scenario-driven gameplay and an attention to historic detail, TIDE OF IRON is sure to delight every fan of tactical, historical wargaming.  This TIDE OF IRON base game focuses on the American and German armies in Northern Europe in the years 1944 and 1945. Each game is played as a single scenario, either chosen from the included scenario guide or created by the players themselves, over a map constructed from modular, double-sided game boards and terrain overlays. The game play is fast-paced, smooth, and surprisingly deep, as players must take and hold vital objectives on the game board and decide how best to use each and every unit under their command.

I've heard this product described as Tide of Plastic...and it is very true. This game comes with a huge number of litle plastic pieces. Luckily, they are all really well done. This is a fun game to play. Set up for a normal game is about 30 minutes and the games themselves last from one to two hours. If you're looking for a quick pick up and play game, this really isn't it. Strategy is a huge part of how you set up your pieces, so that is why setup is so long. As you become more familiar with each unit's strengths and weaknesses, setup time will probably be cut in half. One thing to note is that many of the basic scenarios that come with the game seem to be too one sided, with one of the armies seemingly unable to win, based on how the mission is made. I don't really have a problem with this, it seems to make the historical mission more accurate in my opinion. Tide of Iron is a super fun war game and its play mechanics are more accessible than more hardcore games in the genre. I recommend it.

Excellent wargame. Detailed enough to be entertaining for the wargame buff, but simple enough to not be bogged down in unnecessary 'realism' that turns away those who are casual game players.

I have just recived this game we played for about 6 hours. The game is difficult to learn, but the rules are very complete. After a few hours we started to get the hang of this game, i would recomend this game only to hardcore gamers, this is not a game for the family. The rules are extreamly complicated, but after u master the rules i think its a great game

This game is able to give a feeling for tactical board wargaming in a system that is much smoother and streamlined than many others. Expansions keep this game new and the plastic pieces are well done. This game is only three years old and it has a legion of devoted fans.

"Tide of Iron" from Fantasy Flight Games is an amazing gaming experience that is sure to please wargamers and fans of World War II themed games. Two to four players take on the roles of German or American forces in France in 1944. Players have initial choices of how to distribute units among their allotted forces, and the mechanic that places four unique units on a single stand is really cool. The hex system, game board, cards, and dice system are all a lot of fun. The only complaint I have is that some of these scenarios are a little unbalanced, usually giving one side or the other a distinct advantage. Even those scenarios are fun, however, and I've yet to play a game that I didn't walk away from with a smile on my face. This is really one of those games that afterword during the postmortem you have just as much fun reliving the game's tension and looking at what might have been. Simply a great game from start to finish!

I have played all kinds of strategy war games over the years, and they were always too simple or too complicated. This one has chosen a middle ground that is delightful, especially for a squad level game. I highly recommend it.

I haven't played this game due to the massive extent of the Rules of Play, though that is good that the game has much depth and realism. The plastic miniatures that came with the game are in pretty fair shape, but many trucks and half-tracks look slightly twisted with bent tracks or wheels. This doesn't detract from the game itself but makes me quite upset considering the cost of this game compared to cheaper games like Axis and Allies 1942. The map boards are sturdy and highly detailed, at first glance I thought they were wooden but I now have come to the assumption that they are very thick cardboard. Hopefully they won't warp. The soldiers themselves don't stay in the squad bases, very disappointing and hopefully they won't break easy as there are no replacements I know of. There are plentiful scenarios to play with unique map features which look exciting. Overall I'd say, buy the game if you have the money otherwise buy a cheaper Axis and Allies game. I bought this game brand new for $40 on ebay luckily because no one else bid on it, otherwise I would've paid double that. The expansions look intriguing but also very pricy for the stuff you get. All in all this game is worth it if you can afford it.

I am a playing collector of war games and find TOI an enjoyable experience. The game is a not completely developed with the rules a bit loose in places, the strategy cards mostly bland, and a curious absence of anti-tank guns (I borrow the Memoir 44 ones and give them the ability of tank guns without the protection).

What you get is a self contained and complete miniatures game that is not overly complicated and features all aspects of tactical combat: opportunity fire, assault, overrun etc.

The sequence of play is unique and works. Absent are nationality differences, though. That's ok too: you can tinker with this one and come up with your own fixes.

Ah..and there is something about these little miniatures.
