This classic album is finally gotten it's long overdue home on CD! I have this album on vinyl (I "stole" it from my older brother!) and have played it so many times, I think I've worn it bald! For those who still have the original vinyl version, I think a lot of guys will agree with me that the single one thing that captures one's attention about "Fantasy Love Affair" is the striking, nearly naked young woman in silhouette on the album's cover! This album is one of the few in my collection that I like every single song, which is no mean feat with me! The album's tour-de-force, the near 10-minute masterpiece "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me?" sounds as good today as it did in 1977! When this song was played at the roller skating rink, literally everyone on four wheels was out on the floor skating to this song! "Do You Wanna" was a staple at many a house party I ever went to and ranks as one my all-time singles! From the pure dance funk of "Dance With Me", with the great Betty Wright (of "Tonight Is The Night" fame) doing background vocals, to the synth-laden grooves of "You Should Do It" and "Fantasy Love Affair" to the maudlin but affecting "Without Love" (another gem on this great album) to "Is It True What They Say About Love?" (a true standout track), "Fantasy Love Affair" simply proves to me that all was not lost during the Disco era, that there were artists who made some truly great music during that time, along with the plethora of clunker tunes and one hit wonders that genre produced. Again, this re-affirms my steadfast conviction that music, truly good music, not only withstands but transcends the test of time. A highly recommended must-have album for anyone who loves great music, regardless of the genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not the original cover but still worth a listen, February 8, 2003
This review is from: Fantasy Love Affair (Audio CD)
In 1977 this album shared the same title with the hit "Do You Wanna Get Funky with Me". Also, while the songs on this disc are the same as in '77, the cover is not. Unsure how the R & B/black audience would accept a white singer that was so "groovy", Brown's album did not sport his pic; a silouetted woman was highlignted on the cover.

The cover on the one available now is the same as his follow-up, and more diverse, "Stargazer".

But, that withstanding, "Fantasy Love Affair" is a disco-lover's dream, with pretty decent vocals from Brown and makes-ya-wanna-move rhythms. The best cut, "For Your Love", is actually not a dance track at all. It is a somber number with a soothing Brown performance and a simple arrangement.

Hey, white boys CAN "jump" and Brown proves it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Marvelous - Absolutely Fantastic!, April 25, 2003

There are no words to describe the sheer pleasure this CD brings! The music here captures the essence of the disco era. I'm instantly transported to a bygone era that was simpler and all about having a good time!

"Do You Wanna' Get Funky With Me" is the all-time disco anthem (intoxicating) and his duo with Betty Wright on "Dance With Me" is my personal all-time Peter Brown favorite. The title track is a bouncy song that also takes me back. I had forgotten all about "You Should Do It" and didn't know that it was a Peter Brown tune. This was another song that I particularly loved.

Now that I own the CD, "For Your Love" is a stand out with its simple melody. "The Singer's Become A Dancer" is a steady tune with good keyboard/synthesizer work and a tight harmony.

"Without Love" is a stark, pensive tune with great orchestration. Its simplicity is its elegance.

If you are a disco lover and don't have this in your collection, you're truly missing out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peter Brown..., April 14, 2006
This review is from: Fantasy Love Affair (Audio CD)
As with many others, I went for "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me." But fell for "Fantasy Love Affair," "Dance With Me," "For Your Love (a really good song)," "You Should Do It" and "Singer Becomes a Dancer." Why the other cuts were never played on radio, I'll never figure out! I found the CD in "Tower Records" some years back - I almost screamed, myself! Also, the other reviewers made a valid point. I had NO CLUE that Peter Brown was Caucasian. I only found that out when his next effort came out. He was truly one of those people whose sound was genuinely urban.

For the curious, he supposedly has 50% writing credit for Madonna's song "Material Girl." We all know how big that was! So maybe, just maybe he doesn't have to work? If you listen to the background vocals, you realize that Peter Brown's touch is there (somewhat similiar to "Crank it Up" by Peter Brown). In closing, I rate the album Five Stars - for me, "Fantasy Love Affair" is tops in the Pop/Disco/Dance Genre!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funky White Kid With Vibes, March 18, 2005
This review is from: Fantasy Love Affair (Audio CD)
Every selection on this CD is thumping. I wore this Albumn out and yes I originally owned it on vinyl. Peter Brown was way ahead of himself when you recored"Do you wanna get funky wit me?". All of tracks are great---Without Love is my ultimate favorite---the interchangable rythms and vocals are excellent.

If you are a real music buff as I am, you would buy this CD without hesitation!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars my absolute favorite disco album, March 7, 1999

I'm so glad that disco is being re-evaluated; there are many gems among the trash. I'm 47 years old now, and I remember playing this album to death! I harbored no illusions when I typed in Peter Brown's name that after all these years the album would still be in print, much less available on CD. You cannot imagine my delight when I found his music here on Amazon. Those of you with young teenagers who have no appreciation of what true dance music is all about should buy this CD IMMEDIATELY and start your kid's education. A good sound system is a must. And by the way, think about adding a CD from the original Ph.D of funk, George Clinton....

5.0 out of 5 stars Peter Brown/wow/Available now! Awesome w/hifi system, October 25, 1998

This album (now on cd) is absolutely an awesome and beautiful piece of work. From Rough "Do you want to get funky" to Beautiful "Without Love" This cd is a must have. I have several of the lp's of this very cd and finally I found an Album that wasn't opened and still sealed. I was waiting to record on to a high end digital media but now to my surprise the cd is out. I'm 35 and my 13 year old daughter also fell in love with Peter Brown's Fantasy Love Affair titled album. You will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is a great r&b/dance recording!, September 29, 1999
This review is from: Fantasy Love Affair (Audio CD)
Peter Brown is one of my all-time favorite artists. i wish they would put out a cd of all his hits/dance remixes like "they only come out at night", "baby gets high" and "it's alright", the duet he recorded with dan hartman on his follow-up release to "fantasy" entitled "stargazer" (which is the artwork they put on the "fantasy" cd release!?!). but - because he was on several different record lables (tk, rca) - i guess this will never happen - fans can only hope for a definitive collection. anyway - i'll just keep playing my own personal cassette i made of his best hits and remixes - the 12" cover art of the cat wearing a leather jacket is what i put on my cover - cool!

To really appreciate this you must have grown up in the 70's. It's still a good cd but, they should have used the original cover art. If buying it for the long version of Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me. Please consider getting the Grand 12inches Vol 6 by Ben Liebrand. The sound on that cd is amazing.
