Hey I have been reading fantasy for as long as I can remember and I'm thinking that I'm running out of really good fantasy novels. Especially YA ones! Here's what I've been reading....
Daughter of smoke and bone Graceling Demon king (didn't like but read it all) Poison study Sookie stackhouse (to date) Black jewels (all of them to date but isn't YA) Hunger games Sword of truth series
If anyone had any suggestions I would really appreciate it!
Hi Have you tried Scorpion Races by Maggie Stiefvater? It's a stand alone She's also written a trilogy on Wolves and two part faerie series. I pretty much love anything she writes. Blood and Chocolate by Annette Krause (?) Red Necklace and Silver Blade -2 books- Historical YA set during the French Revolution with some Fantastical elements Curse Workers series by Holly Black its a contemporary YA with some Fantasy elements Die For Me by Amy Plum Cinder by Marissa Meyer - futuristic steampunk fantasy take on the Cinderella story Girl of fire and Thorns by Rae Carson Good Luck Irene
I second Blood & Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause. Also try: Enclave by Ann Aguirre The Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld Delirium by Lauren Oliver The Maze Runner series by James Dashner A Night Inside by Nancy Baker The Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton The Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher The Alera series also by Jim Butcher Wither by Lauren Destefano A Fistful of Sky by Nina Kiriki Hoffman Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman The Blue Girl by Charles DeLint The Host by Stefenie Meyer Anything by Tamora Pierce Cheers!
Thank you H. Raspet! I have actually read the first thee books of Codex Alera, didn't really like them, though I hear that the Harry Dresden files are way better. The others you suggested sound good too and are usually the kind of books I look for! Thanks again and happy reading!
If you have a kindle try The Wretched of Muirwood and its two sequels. Although, it is an independent series, it is definitely on the same level as Poisen Study or The Hunger Games. It's one of my all-time favorite seriesl
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. Don't Breathe A Word by Jennifer McMahon. (Stand Alone) The top two books are ones I have read and enjoyed. Sabriel Trilogy by Garth Nix. A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. Books I think you might enjoy because I'm 22. Haha.. I love love Sabriel Trilogy though it has Dark fantasy in it, but I enjoy the two worlds and their co-existing with each other. Hope I've contributed some....
I second the recommendations of both The Dresden series (Jim Butcher) and the Green Rider series (Kristen Britain). Both are well written. I would sugges the The Elantra series by Michelle Sagara. So far it is at 7 full books and a short story. Well written minus a few editing errors. I'd also add The Nighside series by Simon R. Green. All fun quick reads, snarky British humor liberally sprinkled through out.
I am a 30 yr old mother of 5 and have read too many books in the genre to list here but some of them I enjoyed are (listing series title or book 1 of each series only):
Young adult : The Vampire Academy series (not as juvenile as the title sounds) by Richelle Mead Blue Bloods series by Melissa de la Cruz The Iron Fae series by Julie Kagawa House of Night series by P.C & Kristen Cast Nightshade series by Andrea Cremer The Infernal Devices trilogy & The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare AND THE NEWEST BOOK IN THE GRACELING SERIES IS CALLED BITTERBLUE AND I THINK IT SHOULD BE AVAILABLE ON MAY 1ST!!!
Adult series -more ADULT situations that go into more detail than the young adult books but each novel & series is much longer than the young adult ones.... too grown up to leave them where preteens/ younger teens can read them!
Fever series. (Fae storyline) by Karen Marie Moning Anita Blake - Vampire Hunter and Merry Gentry series by Laurell K Hamilton The Withing Hour Series by Anne Rice
I have to tell you it's almost like you came and raided my bookshelf with what you have been reading lately, because I have read and loved almost all of those books. (Black Jewels doesn't get enough recognition in my opinion.) Have you read Fire, the sequel to Graceling? If not I suggest that because I actually liked it better. I also second anything by Maggie Stiefvater, but I would suggest Scorpion Races first. I really enjoyed Shatter Me by Tehereh Mafi and Under the Never Sky.
Those have been my favorite recently, but I second The Host, Vampire Academy, Birthmarked, and the Fever Series that have already been recommended.
Hi guys! Sorry I haven't replied in forever, just one thing after another I guess. During the gap of my question until now, I have read the Fever series and let me tell you, I loved it! It had everything I could want and more! I have also read codex alera but didn't like it and I read Sabriel and the rest of the series which I really enjoyed! Finnikin and Froi were also awesome and I can't wait until Quintana of Charyn comes out. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that responded and gave me some recommendations, I will deffinatly look into each one. Maybe if any of you have a Goodreads account let me know and I'll add you so we can follow each other. *Melissa: I very much age with Black Jewels not getting enough recognition, it deserves so much more. It's one of my all time favorites* **VAL-B123: with 5 children I would love to know how you have the time to read! I have a 3 year old and I barely get the time!**
