5.0 out of 5 stars FantasyBuy Continuous Ink System
I recently purchased from Epson a refurbished Epson Stylus 1400 Printer that prints up to 13"x19" photos. I had purchased the FantasyBuy CIS for my Epson Artisan 810 a couple of months ago and have been thrilled with the quantity and quality of inks that come in the reservoir tanks. First off, I have never owned any other brand printer but Epson. I love their quality...

This product was very difficult to set up because the instruction booklet that comes with it not only was clearly not written by a person who speaks English as their first language, but the photos that demonstrate how to set this up are very small and dark. Really not much help. I had to end up jury-rigging a solution to make it work.

The problem was that...

Really not much help. I had to end up jury-rigging a solution to make it work.

The problem was that the tubing was too long, and once you set it up the way the instructions told you to, the tubing was still dragging across the page as the carriage moved back and forth, which created streaks across your image if you were printing a photo, which is the vast majority of what I do. The fix involved coming up with a way to lift this tubing off the paper without causing it to be too short when the carriage moved all the way over to the left.

The fix involved placing the "T" tubing holder more to the left of where it's shown in the picture, and also elevating the T by stacking velcro squares under it.

But once I worked out the kinks in the set up, the system has worked perfectly and has been an excellent alternative to spending half your salary on OEM ink cartridges.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware - does not work with mac!, February 4, 2012

Bought this system for use with the Epson 1400 (as stated) and Mac. The documentation refers to PC printer software only and is for a different printer type. THERE IS NO PHONE CUSTOMER SUPPORT so I was stuck emailing the vendor via Amazon. Not only is this very tedious, but after 3 back and forth I'm without the printer working for over a week and the vendor is not able to help at all. (You wait for 2 days to get "are the cartridges all the way pushed down?"). The problem is that there is no chip resetter, so the printer shows "no ink". I purchased a different system for another Epson 1400 in my office a while back, so I'm familiar with the setup - this system was A LOT cheaper, but you get what you pay for. I'm returning it now. Very frustrating experience. I would not recommend this to anyone!

4.0 out of 5 stars BE CAREFUL!, January 25, 2012

When you remove the "shipping plugs" from the ink tanks, expect a mini "explosion" if you aren't at sea level! Wear latex gloves and work on the kitchen counter to pull the plugs - it makes it easier to clean up the mess. I wasn't expecting it and got ink all over my desk, my printer, and my hands. Although the ink cleans up easily from most surfaces with water , not so from your hands! My hands will be stained for weeks :(

It is a bit fiddly to get the system started and get the tubing installed so it doesn't smudge the paper and I had to "prime" most of the ink cartridges to get it started [...] - also a job for the kitchen counter and gloved hands! - but once installed and primed it seems to work fine.

From the reviewer with colourful hands ....... ;)

I love their quality and photo printing is, by far, better than any other printer I've ever seen. People are always asking me, "Who processed your pictures?" They are always amazed at my answer, "I did on my Epson printer." With the new CIS for my Stylus 1400, I get the same great color and quality that I got from the OEM Claria inks. It always drove me crazy to have an ink cartridge run out in the middle of printing an 8"x10" photo and the half-finished photo exit the machine. Now I don't have to guess anymore whether or not the job with be completed. The only concern that I have with the CIS for the Stylus 1400 (unlike with the Artisan 810 whose ink cartridges are stationary, the tubing configuration is a bit tricky since it has to travel with the ink carriage while the picture is being printed. Although I have had to gerryrig the tubing, the print quality and money savings that I will experience far outweigh the concerns.
