5.0 out of 5 stars a shock to the trance system at first...but actually cutting edge, February 16, 2006
This review is from: Far Away (Audio CD)
Lasgo's trance on their first album was stunning--and most of us (including myself) expected more of that here. While the lead of single Surrender and about 3 other singles delivered, when I first bought this disc I was hugely disappointed--until now, when my senses catch up with me. This is the sign of a true group that stays on the cutting edge of dance music, and moved from the oversaturated trance sound to the explosion of retro 80s electro house. And the tracks are incredible--even featuring a remake of Thompson Twins' "Hold Me Now", a 'new wave' ballad "True" which is clearly an ode to Camouflage's "That Smiling Face", and the fantastic "Only You" which borrows its riff directly from Silver Pozoli's "Around My Dream."

Brilliant CD that was ahead of its time and deserves the recognition instead of the rejection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wider scope in sound. Better lyrics. More great songs, January 26, 2005

This review is from: Far Away (Audio CD)
I just got this album a couple hours ago an have only listened a couple of times but since there are only 2 other reviews and it isn't blazing up the amazon.com sales chart(as it should be) I thought I would chime in now with my initial thoughts.

This album is a lot different from Some Things. The first thing you'll notice is the broad pallet of sounds. Overall, the music is pretty damn good. But with that, I don't think I can say the music is better than their debut which just put me in a totally different place even though most of it sounded the same. Far Away however does get a boost in the lyrics department. I guess with those thoughts, I think they might have produced this album differently...maybe writing the lyrics at the same time with the music, as the two gel together nicely.

So far I like a lot of the songs and I'm sure the others will grow on me. Deep In Your Heart has to be Lasgo's best song yet. The music here is just catchy as hell and the lyrics are top notch. Other gems are Surrender, Who's That Girl, Lying and the simple but beautiful True(should be 3rd single, if Deep In Your Heart is 2nd...please).

One however must wonder how totally awesome this album could have been if Lasgo would have kept the songs they wrote for Ian Van Dahl's stellar new cd Lost & Found. I guess we'll never know.

Time will tell if Far Away is better than the magnificent Some Things, but what is here is definitely worth a purchase if you like vocal dance music. Now let's see this baby jump up the amazon charts.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing vocal-trance group releases amazing sophomore effort, January 27, 2005
This review is from: Far Away (Audio CD)
In my review for "Some Things", I mentioned that their lead single "Something" took quite some time to grow on me, and after that I took the chance of buying their full length album only to find that I loved it, and it was a step up above the rest.

well I am here again a little over two years later, and that is by far not the case this time. Lasgo is now one of my favorite groups, so I only had nothing but hope for them to come up with something even better than before. And that they did. Though some die-hard fans may be disappointed that the album is more electronica/80's synth rather than a tightly sealed vocal trance package, I think its all in how an artist grows. The direction they took was for the best, besides, I wouldn't buy it if they released "Some Things Part 2" anyways.

they start off with the trance killer "Surrender" which I'm sure everyone's heard by now, and even made it to #1 for several weeks on the billboard charts. But it isn't till their 2nd single, and 2nd song on the album "All Night Long" that you start to realize the 80's vibe is kicking in. "All Night Long" is a surprise the first time you hear it, its a great song, and like NOTHING Lasgo ever recorded before. Other highlights are "Deep In Your Heart" which features a melodic saxophone effect as the main riff which is rather refreshing; "Only You", "Still"; "Yesterday" & "Tell Me" which both are a bit nostalgic, echoing tracks from their previous album, and lastly the cover of Thompson Twins "Hold Me Now" which is also a great song.

overall, if I'd have to say there is any flaw, it'd be that the song "Far Away" is an instrumental (don't get me wrong, its a great song still), and that "Who's That Girl" is sung by Dave McCullen, I want to hear more Evi.
