5.0 out of 5 stars a shock to the trance system at first...but actually cutting edge
Lasgo's trance on their first album was stunning--and most of us (including myself) expected more of that here. Lasgo's trance on their first album was stunning--and most of us (including myself) expected more of that here. While the lead of single Surrender and about 3 other singles delivered, when I first bought this disc I was hugely disappointed--until now, when my senses catch up with me. This is the sign of a true group that stays on the cutting edge of dance music, and moved from the oversaturated trance sound to the explosion of retro 80s electro house. And the tracks are incredible--even featuring a remake of Thompson Twins' "Hold Me Now", a 'new wave' ballad "True" which is clearly an ode to Camouflage's "That Smiling Face", and the fantastic "Only You" which borrows its riff directly from Silver Pozoli's "Around My Dream."

Brilliant CD that was ahead of its time and deserves the recognition instead of the rejection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wider scope in sound. Better lyrics. More great songs, January 26, 2005

I just got this album a couple hours ago an have only listened a couple of times but since there are only 2 other reviews and it isn't blazing up the amazon.com sales chart(as it should be) I thought I would chime in now with my initial thoughts.

This album is a lot different from Some Things. The first thing you'll notice is the broad pallet of sounds. Overall, the music is pretty damn good. But with that, I don't think I can say the music is better than their debut which just put me in a totally different place even though most of it sounded the same. Far Away however does get a boost in the lyrics department. I guess with those thoughts, I think they might have produced this album differently...maybe writing the lyrics at the same time with the music, as the two gel together nicely.

So far I like a lot of the songs and I'm sure the others will grow on me. Deep In Your Heart has to be Lasgo's best song yet. The music here is just catchy as hell and the lyrics are top notch. Other gems are Surrender, Who's That Girl, Lying and the simple but beautiful True(should be 3rd single, if Deep In Your Heart is 2nd...please).

One however must wonder how totally awesome this album could have been if Lasgo would have kept the songs they wrote for Ian Van Dahl's stellar new cd Lost & Found. I guess we'll never know.

Time will tell if Far Away is better than the magnificent Some Things, but what is here is definitely worth a purchase if you like vocal dance music. Now let's see this baby jump up the amazon charts.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing vocal-trance group releases amazing sophomore effort, January 27, 2005
This review is from: Far Away (Audio CD)
In my review for "Some Things", I mentioned that their lead single "Something" took quite some time to grow on me, and after that I took the chance of buying their full length album only to find that I loved it, and it was a step up above the rest.

well I am here again a little over two years later, and that is by far not the case this time. Lasgo is now one of my favorite groups, so I only had nothing but hope for them to come up with something even better than before. And that they did. Though some die-hard fans may be disappointed that the album is more electronica/80's synth rather than a tightly sealed vocal trance package, I think its all in how an artist grows. The direction they took was for the best, besides, I wouldn't buy it if they released "Some Things Part 2" anyways.

they start off with the trance killer "Surrender" which I'm sure everyone's heard by now, and even made it to #1 for several weeks on the billboard charts. But it isn't till their 2nd single, and 2nd song on the album "All Night Long" that you start to realize the 80's vibe is kicking in. "All Night Long" is a surprise the first time you hear it, its a great song, and like NOTHING Lasgo ever recorded before. Other highlights are "Deep In Your Heart" which features a melodic saxophone effect as the main riff which is rather refreshing; "Only You", "Still"; "Yesterday" & "Tell Me" which both are a bit nostalgic, echoing tracks from their previous album, and lastly the cover of Thompson Twins "Hold Me Now" which is also a great song.

overall, if I'd have to say there is any flaw, it'd be that the song "Far Away" is an instrumental (don't get me wrong, its a great song still), and that "Who's That Girl" is sung by Dave McCullen, I want to hear more Evi.

Lasgo surprised everyone when their debut single "something" became an international hit, even making the US top 40. Their debut album quickly followed annd was a success. The act return with their second album "far away" and this time have added an retro 80's new wave vibe to their trademark Belgian trance sound. And they almost manage to pull it off.

The best tracks on the album are arguably the one taht remain true to Lasgo's vocal trance roots. Lead-off single "surrender" and "deep in your heart" are amazing slices of trance. Evi's vocals are in top form and the beats are amazing.

Second single "all night long" finds 80s new wave as the inspriration. Its a major departure but its quite interesting with its mix of keyboards and minimalist beats.

The rest of the album continues much the same. their are some really interesting electronic sounds and nice melodies but the songs start to sound the same. Fans of the first album may find the new album to be a big departure which I feel it is. Acts need to grow and change although in Lasgo's case I believe they maybe branched too far out of the genre .

5.0 out of 5 stars "Some" Things return, others are "Far Away"!!!, January 28, 2005

LASGO is made up of three members actually. Evi Goffin is the lead female vocalist. Peter Luts and David Vervoot are the producers. Together they create their sophomore album "Far Away"!

This is LASGO's follow up album to their 2001 album "Some Things", which contained the dance hits "Something", "Alone", "Pray" and "I Wonder"! After touring and recording for three years, we finally get "Far Away"! If you liked "Some Things" you will like "Far Away" in this sort of way:

1. SURRENDER: The first track starts off with a GO!!!! This is the first single from the album. A single that has been a #1 Billboard dance single for WEEKS! If you liked songs from their first album, you will LOVE this song. There is a maxi-single of it with remixes available too.

2. ALL NIGHT LONG: Lasgo dares to try for a NEW type of sound on their overseas second single! And it WORKS! The single is number one overseas and will surely catch on to us here in North America within time. "All Night Long" delivers a modern-retro type beat that will be played in clubs in 2005 for sure!

3. DEEP IN YOUR HEART: Another dance gem that has a great bassline and heart-felt vocals by Evi. Fans love this one. Very trancy and the beats sound similar to music from The Legend of Zelda video game - but moderized!

4. ONLY YOU: GREAT track, which is very dance oriented. Magical-type beats and superb vocals!

5. STILL: WOW! Just wait until you hear this one. It gives me goosebumps! If you like Ian Van Dahl type songs, you will love this one! You will find yourself singing along to this and dancing all night long!

6. TRUE: A very DARK MYSTERIOUS ballad sung with emotion and feeling. This song proves that dance artists do have substance!

7. WHO'S THAT GIRL: The only track on this album sung by one of the male vocalist, David Vervoot. I am usually not a fan of male vocalist, but this one is great! If you like the song ONE MORE TIME by DAFT PUNK, you will LOVE "Who's That Girl"! You will love the part when it sounds like he is singing UNDERWATER!

8. YESTERDAY: Once again, LASGO stays true to their dance/trance fans by putting this song on the new album. It is sort of like an ALICE DEEJAY- BETTER OFF ALONE for 2005, but with excellent vocals by Evi!

9. FAR AWAY: The one and ONLY song that does NOT contain ANY vocals. It is five minutes of a whirlwind of trance! Try to create your own lyrics to go along with this hot beat!

10. LYING: Here LASGO forcasts a new dance sound for 2005. It is sort of pop meets euro-dance! A very FUN BOUNCY sing-a-long song with nice lyrics!

11. TELL ME: The HOTTEST SONG ON THIS ALBUM in my opinion. I hope this becomes a single! This song is an absolute future hit! You will find yourself singing and dancing to this at FIRST LISTEN! A hot beat with great vocals! When you hear this, you feel like your at a club in AMSTERDAM! I cannot say enough about this song, just buy the album to hear it!

12. TONIGHT: If you like ALL NIGHT LONG you will LOVE this song. It is just shy of five minutes long with a great hook and deep, dark sounds!

13. HOLD ME NOW: This is the first and only cover song LASGO has done. Originally sung by THE THOMPSON TWINS, LASGO takes the original and blends it up to a new 2005 dance beat which completes a perfect album!

For the TRUE HEARTED dance/trance only fans, you will enjoy tracks 1, 3, 5, 8, 9 and 11. If you are open-minded and like to see an artist mature and create new sounds for each album, you will love tracks 2, 4, 6, 7, 10, 12 and 13. If you enjoy good music in general, you will be intriged by ALL THE TRACKS!

So you see, LASGO does return with "some" things while others seem far away from the first album's sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Music of the Dance Genre, September 27, 2005
By
This review is from: Far Away (Audio CD)
This album is decent all around. I can't say there are any explicitly bad songs here. There are also a few really good tracks as well.

"Deep in your heart" is my favorite track, with "Only you" and "All night long" right behind. Each of these three tracks combine cool instruments/samples, a quality melody, sensible lyrics, and nice vocals that all work well together in harmony. "Deep in your Heart" sticks out to me the most for it's tender lyrics and melody accentuated by a blissful synth.

Of course, not all things go so well. Sometimes great music is ruined by trite vocal work, as is the case with "Who's that girl" and "Tonight". Both have great melodies and beats, but suffer from corny and repetitive lyrics and questionable vocal tone.

On a lighter negative note, I was looking forward to the single non-vocal track on here, "Far away", since a large majority of the music I listen to and enjoy is non-vocal. However, while the track has a good amount of variety, and is well made, its melody simply fails to capture my interest.

The rest of the tracks, as I stated before, are fair. All are fine to listen to in the moment, but none want me to play them again.

In the end, this is good music of the dance genre. I was thinking about giving it a 3/5 stars, but avid fans of this style of music will likely enjoy it more, so I compromised. You can't go wrong with this album.

Unlike SomeThings, Far Away skips any slow songs and heads straight for the repetetive, dance lyrics and beats. This album is much more fun and poppish than their first - "That Girl" being a prime example of the bright, almost bubble-gum feel of the album. That's not to say it's all fun and games - most of the dance gems on here are serious and gorgeous.

5.0 out of 5 stars WORTH THE WAIT!!!!!, January 25, 2005

This review is from: Far Away (Audio CD)
ok, their first album, something, was a cut above the rest. and the best album ever to be released by a euro trance band. on this cd, they step it up a bit by throwing in some 80's electro in along with the euro trance. and the combination of the two is brilliant. the next single, "all night long" is a very addictive song staight out of 1986. less trancey, but a great dance song none the less. evi's (the lead singer) vocals are much stronger this time around, as is her english. there are many standout tracks here, the best being, "lying"-this albums' "blue", "tell me", "deep in your heart", and the brilliant thompson twins' cover-"hold me now". this is the kind of album dance acts should be releasing. albums with variety. because thats how dance music will grow and survive. great effort. dont miss out on this one!!!!it was worth the wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Power Dance Songs To Power Ballads... This Album Is awesome!, May 11, 2006
This review is from: Far Away (Audio CD)
"Far Away" is one of the best dance albums I've heard in some time... I loved Lasgo's first album and still continually listen to it off the hook as well... On "Far Away"... the song that stands out the most to me is "True"!

The first thing that caught my attention on the album was the third song "Deep In Your Heart"... "you were longing for love!" It is an upbeat ballad and is very simple but dreamy as heck! The song pertains to a person who says they are somewhat of a player and they want to keep it casual, but secretly they were longing for love the whole time... Is that so not true now-a-days? People front like that, and Lasgo captures that emotion.

The second song will be my favorite until I take my last breath... It is called "True"! It is a definate ballad that uses the angels singing in the background from the movie "The exorcism of Emily Rose"... the song is haunting and puts forth the most yearning I've ever felt in a song. It leaves me feeling emotionally yearned out when I listen to it and it comforts me when I feel lonely... I put it on repeat!
"Can this be true?"
"I belong to you... and you belong to me?"
"The world outside, it feels so cold, that is why I'm here with you..."

Awesome! "Surrender" sounds very much like a song from "Some Things" and I love the remake of "Hold Me Now" by the Thompson twins"... I wasn't interested in purchasing the second album from Lasgo, but I did, and found "True"... Is it a remake??? Or does the song just touch an emotion in me I never knew I had? It seems so familiar to me... Give this one a chance you guys... I never liked ballads until I heard Lasgo's ballads! This album is fresh, hip, and alot deeper than their first!

4.0 out of 5 stars A quality sophomore release, December 2, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Far Away (Audio CD)
Group/band Lasgo (comprising of the producer, Peter Luts, producer/lyricist, Dave McCullen, and lyricist, David Vervoort and the face of the group, Pop star, Evi Goffin) sophomore album is more varied and features longer songs which is plus. This time around, the lyrics of the songs and music arent so melcoholic and saddening (not unlike lyrics from most singer/songwriter Pop/Rock artists), there are less destressing songs like the first single, (lead single in the U.S.), "Surrender" is a song about patients in a relationship, the "good things come to those who wait" mantra. "Surrender" made nearly instant impact on Rhythmic Pop & Dance radio stations throughout the U.S. The second U.S. single, "All Night Long" is a Euro-Dance/Hi-NRG/New Wave song which is sensual and is even more Pop radio friendly than "Surrender." "Deep In Your Heart" and "Only You" are romantic Trance-Pop song with an Hi-NRG touch which is a very relatable song. Both would go well on the Pop stations and charts if given a fair chance. The European hit single, "Lying" is a dramatic love song with anthemic Eur-Dance sythns, good groove and strong bassline. The New Wave classic by the Thompson Twins, "Hold Me Now", works well in a Euro-Dance/Hi-NRG/Trance-Pop background. It's a plus it is not much different from the hit original version. The title track is a pleasant mostly instrumental Euro-Dance track. One the whole, "Far Away" is a more optimistic album than the melacoholy, at times bleek outlook, "Some Things" protrayed. Evi gives a solid vocal proformance throughout, outshining Pop-tarts like Hilary and Lindsay. The remainder of the album is just as good, with intelligent lyrics, but nothing to strain your mind to understand and catchy music. No disappointments here. If you want relatable music about the ups and downs of love and life and are sick of Hip-Hop dominated Pop songs, this album is for you. "Far Away" is not just for Club/Dance fans but pop music fans looking for something different and intriguing. By the way, the producers of this album are the same producers behind Ian Van Dahl. Recommended.
