i am an avid game guide 'user' and when i started into far cry 3, i knew i would make good use of this. little did i know just HOW useful it would be.

i found this to be very well laid out and visually wonderful.

the contents are as follows:

behind the scenes
how to play
welcome to rook island
cast of characters
the basics
the main campaign
side missions
other missions
multiplayer
outposts
radio towers
collectibles
crafting recipes
achievements & trophies

in a lot of game guides, my beef is that the images are usually too small. such is not the case here. the concept art images are lovely, and the screenshots are of a good size.

the sections i got some of the best use out of were the 'outposts,' and the 'achievements & trophies' sections. i found it quite helpful to get a read on what was happening at each outpost (certainly made a difference in my being undetected!) and the options for approach. i still use my camera to tag all the enemies i can see, and i still use the highest vantage point possible, but it is nice for sure to have this information when going in.

the 'achievements & trophies' section was super duper in providing tips for where/how to complete the necessary requirements.

the 'crafting recipes' section was referenced many times when i was getting my rucksack, wallets, and pouches upgraded. it was helpful to have a quick reference of what animals i needed to be on the lookout for next (though i still dislike having to hunt at all...but that's another story entirely).

the rest of the guide is just laid out very clean and easy to peruse. the collectibles are well mapped out, as is the 'other missions' section.

if all your interested in is a basic walkthrough with maps of all the loot, letters & relics (which, incidentally you can buy with in-game cash) it's worth the price... but if your looking for in depth help with with a specific quest problem you won't find it here. :j

Guide to one of my favorite games of the year. I know now you can just search the internet and find the same information but there is something about still having the guide that I enjoy. I guess I'm a little older and don't want the ipad in my lap at all times.

This guide is somewhat skimpy. I dislike guides like this that do not have an index. Sorting out which item (relic, letter) you're looking for requires cross-referencing with a map. A lot of wasted space on "environment" and characters. Guns section is standard, without overall comparison chart.

Overall, this guide helps, but I expect more.

I found a real need to have the strategy guide for Skyrim and most especially Dark Souls. So upon purchasing Far Cry 3, I thought this would really come in handy since I knew nothing about types of guns. Well as it turns out, I have barely opened up the guide. I feel this game is really easy to understand, there's no real hidden knowledge that you might wish to uncover by using a guide. The guide itself is set up in rather a promotional manner with lots of artwork. The lack of an index really makes it ridiculous to look anything up should you really wish too.

This guide leaves a LOT to be desired.Sure,it gores into great detail about your weapons, your destinations, relics, lost letters, vehicles, animals,et al.All are in their own separate place in the book, and during the actual game playing one is busy hopping back and forth looking at the guide(from one area to the next)trying to make sense of what special items one should be picking up during a certain campaign. For example, let's say we're assaulting a compound of baddies. The guide gives you hints on how to accomplish your task, but rarely or never does it say,oh by the way while you are doing such and such, look for the lost letter behind crate X,or a relic tucked away just to the east.It is only when you look up where Relic# such and such is,you find it is where you have already been. You are then peed off because it would have been nice to have been told while in the area in the first place.Multiply this 120 times for relics,20 times for memory cards and 20 times more for letters. My advice for this game? There is an e-guide that comes with the guide.Go to the site, punch in the accompanying code and print out where the relics, cards, letters and formulas lay. Then as you complete one campaign look at your in-game map and find the collectibles in that area. When you're done,go on to the next campaign and then after do the same again. To try and go back and forth in the guide was/is insanity multiplied.
Then there is the just plain incorrect advice this guide sometimes gives. For example there is a Relic hidden in a cave 3/4 the way up a cliff side. The guide says to use your built in wings to glide into it as that's the only safe way to do it.Nonsense.there is a glider on the same cliff and I used it to glide in and made it first time! Or the guide may say dropping down a hole may kill you.

by far one of the best guides I've bought in years
not only does it list every single collectable but also the easy methods to
aquire these hard to find collectables!
full weapon lists are provided for both MP and SP
they also provide custom weapon lists for the "special weapons" in single player
the maps are spot on and provide the best info for loot chests, enemy camps, weapon and tower locations, hints and tips for battle.
a full section on the co-op and how best to complete it.
all the co-op levels detailed including enemy types and best ways to deal with
them.
excellent enemy lists for single player and co-op prove helpful.
the skills are all listed and how they work which was very handy
in spots. a full walkthrough is there as well though
it only guides you through the main campaign. side quests
are in their own section and walkthroughs for them as well.
the game is so epic I really wanted the platnium in this
and it would not have been possible without this guide!
it's 100% worth the buy!

Guide and page quality: glossy pages and in game pics of the collectable locations is invaluable here one of the top reasons to buy the guide 5 stars

item and enemy lists: while the item lists and weapon lists really were not necessary they're a nice touch and I for one was glad to have them.
the enemy lists are helpful especally for SP and co-op.

Maps: well done in game pics make the maps flawless. 5 stars

Overall: if you just want a handy walkthrough guide or
you Must have Every collectable this is the guide to buy
as it's invaluable in the areas I spoke of.
it's a 5 star guide.
