5.0 out of 5 stars A HUGE STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!!!
I can't tell you in words how much I love this album and how excited I am the things that slick shoes is doing. Any mistakes with previous album being too poppy or not up to slick shoes standard have been completely forgotten because this album makes up for everything and is THE BEST SLICK SHOES ALBUM EVER! (their last album was very good too so check it out) They did everything right on this album, and stepped it up a notch musical and commerically. The music has gotten alot better, still melodic but not so much that it doesn't satisfy the punk thirsty. The lyrics are amazing, always ending up postive in the end which is good because I'm sick of bands that only focus on negative all the time. I used to think MxPx was just a little better than slick shoes, being as I was a fan of both bands. But on Mxpx's recent album I'm dissapointed and they sound nothing like what they were before, but slick shoes on the other hand have gotten better and have not dissapointed me with this album and I'm shocked at how good it is. I think some of the change in their style might have to do with being on a new label and the lineup change, either way it's great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Different, but in a good way., August 18, 2003

I'm a huge slick shoes fan. There's not one song they have that I don't like. I like this CD very much, but you can't really compare it to their other CDs. The style is so much different than before, since they keep changing guitarists. I personally like variation and change, so this is great for me. If you like Slick Shoes and don't like change, you may not want to buy the CD. If you like change, buy it. Maybe listen to sample songs or listen to them on mp3.com. See if you like it. It's that simple. Listen to Slick Shoes. They Rock!

4.0 out of 5 stars BEST ALBUM SLCIK SHOES HAVE EVER MADE, September 22, 2003

Slick Shoes is one of my favorite bands ever. This album is by far their best ever. I have liked Slick Shoes since they released their self-titled 7". It was different than most punk bands, very technical. I couldn't resist that sound. Rusty and Burnout followed suit with the technical, metal influenced punk. Then they starting switching members, and they released Wake Up Screaming and Slick Shoes which treaded edgy pop/punk boundaries. They were total disappointments compared to the masterpiece Burnout. They have totally redeemed themselves though. This new album mixes the early technical style slick shoes with 80s riffage and just a hint of the poppy sound. Not only is their a metal influence, they even have some thrash influence on here. Check out the end of Down Hill and the hidden track at the end. In an interview, they said this album would mix the old and the new slick shoes with a hint of Dokken. I don't know if their is a Dokken influence, but it has alot of metal influence in it. Slick Shoes is back with a vengeance. Maybe they will just forget they ever did Wake Up Screaming and The Self Titled.

To the guy who said this has been going on in Australia for years, all i have to say is that Wake Up Screaming was not original. It was bland just like all the other pop-punk that you can hear on the radio. Only one good song came off that album, the ballad "My Angel."

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, August 2, 2003

This new album is SO incredibly awesome. The new additions to the band, Jonah. Kevin and David, definitely bring a harder, faster and if it's possible, better, sound to Slick Shoes. I've been listening to them since Rusty and they're my favorite band, and even *I* think this album tops them all. Every track from beginning to end totally flows throughout the whole CD. Not to mention the wicked hidden metal track at the end. If there's one album you pick up this year, make sure it's Far From Nowhere, and definitely check out their live show. Rock the f**k on you guys!

5.0 out of 5 stars THe best slick shoes ever?, July 28, 2003

HECK YEAH! I thought they couldn't pass the greatness of their selftitled effort, but this blows that one away. Best track is all of them. I was captivated by each and every track on this disc. This is the best release of toothandnail so far this year. If you buy only one CD this year, then this is the one.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointing, July 28, 2003

I've been a keen Slick Shoes fan for a long time now, and despite all the good reviews surrounding it, I found myself disappointed with this album.
Slick Shoes have always sounded different to every other band around, back in the Rusty/Burnout days, and even with Wake Up Screaming and Self-titled. Trouble is, Slick Shoes' 'new style' sounds like every other Australian punk band. The guitar riffs are simple and boring; mostly just one guitar playing power-chords and the other playing octaves. To me, the new guitar players' parts don't stand up against the original, progressive riffage of Greg Togawa or Jackson Browne and Dale Yob. Also the vocals are a little predictable, and the whole production in general sounds too rough, like it's only a demo.
Maybe in America this style is new, but in Australia we've heard it all before. Here everyone loves Wake Up Screaming cause it's so different to what we've got or what we're getting from the US. I guess I'm just in the wrong country at the wrong time...

Don't get me wrong, Slick Shoes are still Slick Shoes, and are incapable of making a bad album. There are some cool songs; like Carpentaria and Darko; but on the whole, Far From Nowhere suffers from a lack of strong songwriting. I'll ALWAYS be a huge Slick Shoes fan, but this is definately not their best work.

It took many years, many albums, and a few different record labels but Slick Shoes have finally abandoned their beliefs and fans for the mainstream media. Their sound has been progressively heading towards a formulaic pop/punk sound and now the transformation is complete. They have changed their music from emotional and meaningful with incredible metal like solos' and compelling lyrics to a copycat sound. To appeal to mass amounts of people they have also abandoned their faith, or at least Ryan has. He even wrote a song about it, which led to a member of the band to actually quit. Of course it was under the guise of 'creative differences.' The music is uninspired and boring (listen to Burn Out and Rusty for the good times) and their abandonment of their fans and faith make me want to puke. They've lost another fan who has listened to them since Ryan was 13. Good luck with the MTV crowd guys.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best cd's!!, June 20, 2004

ok, first i want to say that im from austria (not australia), and here its hard to get cd's from not so famouse US punk-bands, and SLICK SHOES is by far very unknown here.....unfortunatly.
so i got to know them very late.....it always makes me sick that in my country this kind of music is not so popular as it deserves.....and im also fed up with this hackneyed pop-punk stuff im able to buy here. But ok.....this is another thing....
I can not describe how i love this album....its amazing, fast, emotional, ...and with great ideas. Sure, SLICK SHOES sounds a little bit like MXPX, espacially the voice, but dont compare it...i like MXPX as well, but their songs sound very similar, and their ideas are not that good by far! FAR FROM NOWHERE is their best work, but i love every song of them.....e.p. Pass me by, angel....WOW!
This is one of the best cd's i have ever heard......so, dont waste time, and buy it!!!
by the way, if u want to check out a good europe punk band, then i recommend u UNDECLINABLE from the netherlands and all their three album, they rule!!

This review is from: Far From Nowhere (Audio CD)
I really love this band. I have only heard them for the first time today and i already love em'! However they sound excactly like the other us pop-punk band MxPx!! MxPx is like my favorite band and i even have a spike boy tattoo and when i heard this band i could not believe how much they sounded alike! the resemblence in the vocals are amazing! This is one of those albums that you could listen to over and over again like "say it like you mean it" by the starting line.
