Sensual, Delicate, Beautiful Oriental Musical Landscapes,
By
This review is from: Faraway (Audio CD)
Jia Peng Fang is a New Age musical artist who plays the erhu (Chinese traditional violin) with refined stylizations and sensitive soul-searching technique. The music creates a feeling of harmony ... as each note carries the listener to a place of solitude and peace. The lovely Oriental melodies are accompanied by other traditional Chinese instruments, koto, dizi, as well as bass, guitar and drums. If one is drawn to the visual, such as, delicate porcelain objects and detailed brush paintings ... then this music will appeal to the other refined sense, the aural one. Other instruments played on this CD are: piano, dihu, dasanxian, keyboards, piba, and guzheng. I do not pretend to know what Western instruments correspond to their sound or appearance but this I can say without hesitation, the music played is exotic and the instruments are genuine traditional Chinese highly appealing and sensual. If one wants to relax and become mellow ... this is the CD to play. Let the poetic titles of the tracks tell their own story ... "Firefly", "Sirius", "A Water Lily", "Erquan Yingyue" and "The Wind of Liudao" ... suffice to say the music is just as enticing and evocative. Erika Borsos (erikab93)

After hearing Jia's album "River" and being entralled by its blend of Erhu and modern instruments, I was looking forward to hearing "Faraway". I was NOT disappointed. The album is relaxing, soothing, and a joy to listen to, both as background music during work, and a dedicated play for pure listening pleasure. Simply put, the music is hauntingly beautiful. Track 8 is played a bit faster than the rest of the album, but is enjoyable none the less.

Probably one of the most exquisite albums I've ever listened to. Jia Ping Fang is certainly one of China's greatest musicians.

I heard "Seishu (Pure)" on my Pandora playlist one day and loved it at once. I had to stop in the middle of what I was doing to find out what it was and who it was by. I began bookmarking all of Jia Peng Fang's songs that I could find on YouTube, but I knew I was just prolonging the inevitable. I had to get the CD. It was a necessity.
The pieces included on this CD are absolutely enchanting. Although I've become more interested in the genre since discovering Jia Peng Fang, I've yet to find anything that comes close to what I feel when I listen to his music. This CD is a must-have for anyone who loves music, whether they are familiar with the genre or not.
