5.0 out of 5 stars Basic Boards Do The Job On the Cheap
Getting three poly cutting boards for a reduced price was a great value.

The paddle board has a channel on one side of the board for juices. The other two boards do not have a channel. All of the boards contain an antimicrobial agent.

Since these 3 boards are also nonporous and dishwasher-safe they are easy to keep sanitary compared to wood board.

This set has one large board and two smaller boards. The large board is great for big cutting jobs and the other two boards are useful for smaller prep jobs.

I would favorably compare the features of this set to more expensive poly boards. They lack the visual appeal of more expensive poly boards and only the paddle board has a channel for excess juices. Pads would be nice too but then you could only cut on one side.

To date these boards are holding up pretty well. I've had poly boards from outlets that showed knife marks. These boards seem more durable than those poly boards but do show marks when a hard cut is made.

Update: I've had these boards for over six months and I find myself using them constantly. I cook daily and they are wearing well. They don't damage my expensive knives and only show scratches when I make a hard cut. However, if you use the boards constantly they will start to look scratched if you "heavy handed" like me. I'd rather have a mark on my board than a damaged knife. I've changed my rating to five stars as these poly boards have worked out great. I bought the 12"x18" Farberware board too because this set has worked out so well. The 12x18" board is a nice addition if you cook whole birds or other jobs that can use a large board with a wide juice channel. I rarely use my attractive wooden boards these days and find myself using the Farberware boards for almost all my cutting jobs.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Can Never Have Enough Cutting Boards, September 28, 2002

This review is from: Farberware 3-Piece Poly Cutting Board Set (Kitchen)
There comes a time in every cook's life that they realize that it would be easier to have multiple cutting boards instead of taking the time to clean and re-clean a single board multiple times just to make one meal.

This is a nice little collection. They all fit in the dishwasher, and even the smallest isn't so small that it has no utility. The bundle also was priced less than I found similar sized boards for in local stores.

They may not last me the rest of my life, but they are sturdy enough that I've already got more use than I paid for, and they've still got plenty of use left in them.

You're not going to get your picture in Better Homes and Kitchens magazine for having these in your kitchen. They make no fashion statement at all. But they do have plenty of utility, and isn't that what you're interested in when you need to chop, slice or dice something?

The board is thicker near the edges than it is in the middle, which is a serious flaw since the knife needs to contact the board throughout the cut.

I've owned several cutting boards, and never had one with a defect. It's an extremely simple product, and almost all types are flawless. To receive one with two separate, easily noticeable flaws is very disappointing. I cannot recommend this product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not perfectly flat, November 19, 2002
This review is from: Farberware 3-Piece Poly Cutting Board Set (Kitchen)
I bought two sets of these. They're great for smashing wet things like handmade paper and pasted items. But both of the largest boards were warped--tippy on one side and stable but not flush with the table on the other. Still, for the money I'm very happy with the small boards which *are* perfectly flat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Farberware....., August 30, 2003

Whenever I see the name "Farberware", I know I am assured of high quality cooking utensils. I was not disappointed with this 3-piece "Poly Cutting Board Set". The picture here does not do this product justice. They are not transparent, as they appear to be here. They are solid and sturdy,a good weight, make food prep and clean up easy, and are a great price to boot.

The three sizes (14-1/4x10-3/4,10x8, and 7x9-1/4)are just about perfect for anything you may be preparing(I might have like the largest just a little bigger for say, cutting up a whole chicken). Each has a convienet handle, making it easy to move around or even hang up if you choose. The paddle shaped board has a channel around it for catching juices that usually flow off the board. I used that one to cut a pineapple up recently and had much less of a sticky mess to clean up. It would have been great if the larger board had these channels too, for catching the juice from meats before they hit the counter.

These boards can double for serving fruits and cheese and are nice for slicing bread or bagels as well. They are a good quality with a nice textured surface, that,so far, have not shown any wear from the knives. They are easily washed, dried and stored away. Another reviewer mentioned that their's was not flat, mine are, and I would suggest if you happen to recieve a set that is not flat, it should be returned for a new one.

The boards are treated to protect them from odor and stain causing bacteria, but must be throughly washed after food preparation.

A good buy for your kitchen, making life just a little simpler...Now If I can just get someone else to actually do the cooking......

thanks and enjoy.....Laurie

This is a pretty good set of cutting boards. You're not going to carve a large turkey on any of them but all three are of a useful size for everyday use. The Poly boards are easy on expensive knives. I use a folded, slightly damp kitchen towel under all my cutting boards to keep them from sliding around. An economical set of good quality.

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't expect high quality..., December 9, 2003

These are usable, but this is not a great set of boards. The plastic is fully opaque (not the tougher slightly-translucent plastic you see in some boards). They are very thin, and have some minor manufacturing defects (not completely flat, there are bits of plastic still on the seams where they came out of the mold, a few odd gouges probably also from the manufacturing process).

On the plus side, the three sizes are handy - the large is useful without being unwieldy, the small is just right for little jobs, and the medium is a good all-purpose size - and you're not going to beat the price (particularly as part of an order with Amazon's Super Saver shipping). For quality they'd get two stars; the extra star is for good value for the money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap but poor quality..., January 6, 2004

I agree with some earlier reviews: These boards have uneven thicknesses, and the cutting surface is not flat. This means the boards can wobble on the countertop. Farberware may be inexpensive, but it's no bargain. Spend the extra dollars on a KitchenAid cutting board, which is thick, perfectly flat, and has non-skid rubber grips. If you're on a budget, Ikea cutting boards are even cheaper than Farberware but still better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value, May 15, 2003

I've had this set of poly boards for over a year of almost daily use. They've stood up to my top of the line knife collection better than the more expensive poly boards I've purchased since. Only the paddle board has a juice channel but otherwise these boards are perfect. They don't show knife marks but are not hard enough to dull your knives.

Since two of these boards lack a juice channel, I use these two only for vegetables. The paddle board with the juice channel is great for small amounts of meat OR juicy vegetables. You could put a towel under the other two boards to catch meat/veggie juice.

I prefer wood to poly for meat/poultry/fish since a wood board is easily sterilized in the microwave. These boards, like all poly boards, must be sterilized in a properly configured dishwasher or using chemicals such as a vinegar solution and/or a 3% peroxide mix. I recall that the boards are treated with microban but that only minimizes baterial spread so you must still sterilize your board.

The picture of these boards makes them look very thin and transparent... so I wasn't really expecting much at all. But they are NOT transparent or translucent... they are great heavy-duty items that will do fine! Much better than expected.
